Bill Potts of Doctor Who season 10 may be more well known for how funny she was, or for how sad her ending was, but no one can deny how good her outfits were. Bill seemed to take a lot of inspiration from the 1980s and 1990s, which were very trendy when she first appeared on screen.

Since she was a university student, her outfits had a youthful playfulness to them with their color and patterns, and this was always great to see amongst the danger of each episode. Bill surprisingly managed to have a number of outfits during her short time in the show, and of course, some manage to stand out.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Striped Bodysuit – “Smile”

Bill Pott’s wardrobe was always very colorful, and this bright striped bodysuit probably shows that the most. It is filled with retro-toned colors, and Bill furthers the colorful vibes with a blue and black bomber jacket on top. She manages to tone the outfit down a little with black skinny jeans and white sneakers, but she certainly stands out still.

She finishes the look with a signature hair bow, and has a small necklace, both of which add some cute femininity to the outfit. Overall, in an episode where she has to pretend to be happy all the time, her clothes get across that emotion easily.

Retro T-Shirt And Denim Jacket – Multiple Occasions

This was the outfit that viewers were first introduced to Bill in, and many people believed that she could be a companion from another time period, rather than contemporary London. The geometric black and white print t-shirt feels very 1960s, but the acid wash denim jacket over it feels very 1980s, which overall creates a funky and fun retro look.

While Bill wasn’t actually from another period, the outfit still gave insight into her funky personality. Though of course, this is the outfit she wears when she gets shot, which leads to one of the worst things that a Doctor Who companion has gone through. But at the very least, the outfit is great.

Pastel Sleeveless Blouse – “The Pilot”

Bill’s aesthetic overall is very bright and summery, and this outfit seems to epitomize that. She wears a sleeveless collared blouse with pastel stripes, which looks beautiful. She manages to make the look a little tougher by adding a black bag and hoop earrings, which shows that Bill isn’t afraid to go a bit darker if she needs to.

The look overall is perfect for Spring and Summer, and it has a great vintage vibe to it. It appears quite 1980s, which is an era that Bill clearly draws inspiration from. This is also one of the first outfits that viewers see Bill in, and it definitely creates a great impression overall.

Tank Top And Choker – “The Pilot”

This is the outfit that the Doctor meets Bill in, and it’s a great way for the audience to gather a sense of how Bill likes to dress. Here, she is wearing a multicolored striped top with a shoelace choker necklace, making the look very on-trend for 2017. The outfit is still practical with some jeans, and Bill styles her hair beautifully with a hairband that she has tied into a bow at the top.

At this point in the show, Twelve seems to have moved on from losing Clara, which is one of the saddest things that has happened to the 12th Doctor. He is ultimately drawn to his new companion Bill by her cheeriness, and this is reflected in her fun outfit.

Yellow Puffer Jacket – Multiple Occasions

One of the items that Bill wears multiple times is her yellow puffer jacket. Puffer jackets are very on-trend, making any outfit that Bill wears with it super fashionable. She often pairs it with jeans, which is a tried and true combination.

The sunny yellow color of the jacket is of course gorgeous. Often the jacket is worn when she is with Heather, showing how the other woman causes Bill to be more outwardly sunny. These two compliment each other so well, that Doctor Who audiences want to see a spin-off series with them. It would probably include more of this awesome jacket.

Dungarees And Striped T-Shirt – “Knock Knock”

This outfit is worn during the episode where Bill is trying out a new student house. The outfit itself feels very university student, as it is youthful, fun, yet still practical. Bill is wearing some black dungarees with a block-colored t-shirt. They are certainly great colors to look at, and the black of the dungarees helps the t-shirt stand out.

Furthermore, Bill is one of the first major characters on Doctor Who to be openly part of the LGBTQ+ community. And while she is actually a lesbian, one could infer that the colors on the t-shirt, which are the colors of the bisexual flag, are a nod to her non-straight sexuality.

Victorian Outfit – “Thin Ice”

Bill doesn’t often wear period clothing, so it’s all the more amazing when she does. In this wintery episode, she is wearing an emerald green velvet coat with beautiful embroidery, buttons, and fur trim, along with a white blouse and skirt. Of course, Bill is no stranger to head accessories, so she is also wearing a glorious hat with a large cream feather.

The colors aren’t ones that Bill usually wears, but they still look great, and the episode is worth a watch mainly by this outfit alone. The episode also involves one of the 12th Doctor’s wisest quotes, which makes the episode even more worthy of watching.

Denim Moto Jacket – “Twice Upon A Time”

While this is the episode that Bill finally leaves the show on in one of the saddest Doctor Who companion exits, at least her outfit is great. She is wearing a dark-colored underlayer, with a denim moto jacket and brown ankle boots.

The outfit, which is slightly darker than Bill usually goes, manages to get across that this isn’t quite Bill, as by this point she is just a part of the Doctor’s memory. On the other hand, the outfit could show how Bill has been changed by the show’s events and has become more damaged and serious because of them. Either way, it’s a great piece of storytelling by the costume department.

Red Retro Sweater – “The Eaters Of Light”

This is another example of Bill’s excellent sweater collection. Usually, she goes for retro colors and stripes on her sweaters, and this sweater is a variation of that. It is bright red with blue, black, and white stripes on the sleeves and neckline.

The sweater’s color is gorgeous, so Bill lets it speak for itself by pairing it with simple blue jeans that match the stripes on the sweater’s arms. Her hair is also tied up to show more of the sweater. The outfit also manages to stand out against the bleak environment that this adventure takes place in. The characters all need some light, and Bill’s outfit certainly provides that.

Varsity Jacket And Striped Sweater – “Twice Upon A Time”

Bill likes to wear stripes often, and this is shown in this particular outfit. She is wearing a multicolored striped sweater with dark-wash skinny jeans and a navy blue varsity bomber jacket. This outfit feels quintessentially Bill, as it involves all of her iconic style pieces. Although she isn’t wearing a head accessory for once, she does have on some nice shiny earrings.

Since this is one of the last outfits that the audience sees Bill in, it was important that the outfit showed Bill’s quintessential style, and the costume department definitely succeeded in this regard. It’s an outfit that leaves a lasting impression.
