Fans were introduced to the down-to-earth, hardworking, and spunky Rose Tyler in Doctor Who’s season 1. Throughout the season she managed to have some killer outfits with a recurring color palette of blues and pinks–clearly, she loved hoodies and denim.

Because of her staple pieces, Rose managed to have some iconic outfits that were just as exciting as whatever space-related hijinks she was getting up to in the episode that she was in. And of course, a certain number of these iconic outfits stand out from the rest.

10 Knit Scarf And Double Denim – “Boom Town”

Rose rocks a double-denim look in this episode, though she keeps it from looking too 80s by having the denim be a mid-wash color, and having a denim skirt instead of jeans. The blue outfit obviously looks great on her, but what really makes the look is the multicolored chunky knit scarf.

This scarf has become an iconic piece for all Rose cosplayers out there, and it clearly helps Rose keep cosy while she’s fighting off the slitheen. She has also accessorized with braids and hoop earrings, a combination that she didn’t do very often, but was very nice to see.

9 Union Jack Top – “The Doctor Dances”

“The Doctor Dances” is one of the Doctor’s and Rose’s best episodes, and it involves one of Rose’s best outfits. The Union Jack was a very popular logo in the early 2000s, so Rose is right on trend, especially with her bootcut jeans and pulled-back bangs. Her black jacket also contrasts with the red of the t-shirt nicely. Overall, the outfit is comfy and practical, but it still stands out.

Furthermore, as this episode is set during World War 2, it feels very on theme for Rose to be sporting a patriotic symbol during one of Britain’s hardest times in history, even without the empty child being there.

8 Victorian Dress – “The Unquiet Dead”

Rose very rarely dresses up in period clothing throughout her time as the companion, but when she does, it looks great. She also doesn’t wear dresses often, so seeing her in a floor-length Victorian gown is very striking. Furthermore, the colors are much darker than her usual palette, so the look really sells how she is trying to disguise herself and blend into her new environment.

Victorian clothes are always filled with interesting silhouettes and textures, so it’s nice to see them on display here. It perfectly matches the gothic and ghostly vibe of the episode, while also feeling Christmassy, which is perfect for a Charles Dickens related adventure.

7 Blue Hoodie – “Doomsday”

This episode involves one of the saddest companion exits in all of Doctor Who, but Rose still manages to look great. Blue is definitely her color, and hoodies seem to be her most worn item. Therefore, it makes sense that a blue hoodie would be her exit outfit, as it leaves a lasting impression of her in the audience’s mind. The blue of the hoodie also symbolizes the sadness of the scene, where Rose and the Doctor are separated with those two walls.

She pairs the look with some black jeans. Jeans are also a wardrobe staple for Rose, and the darkness of the jeans once again reflects the darkness of the scene.

6 Pinafore Dress And Pink T-Shirt – “Tooth And Claw”

Rose gives a slight ode to the 70s punk fashion with this look, and it’s very fun overall. She pairs a mauve pink t-shirt with a denim pinafore dress, which is one of the rare occasions that Rose wears dresses. The t-shirt has a crown on it, which is probably the best t-shirt to wear when meeting Queen Victoria.

The pinafore dress gives a youthful edge which is perfect for Rose, but the dress is also sturdy and practical, making it great for fighting off werewolves. She also pairs the outfit with tights and boots, furthering the mix between punk and practicality. Overall, it’s definitely one of her most memorable looks.

5 Purple And Blue Blouse – “New Earth”

Purple is also a colour that Rose wears quite often, and this shirt is a great example of it. In this episode, Rose is possessed by Cassandra. Cassandra likes to show off her body a little more, so while Rose initially had a dark blue hoodie on, Cassandra takes it off to reveal a very nice purple and blue blouse. The blouse has patches on it, which gives it a little edge, and her jeans match the colors well.

As the shirt is a little lower cut and tighter than what Rose usually wears, it’s a clever way to hint that Rose is currently being possessed by someone else. And of course, the outfit is still fabulous.

4 New Year’s Outfit – “The End Of Time”

This episode is one of the times that Rose and the Doctor were couple goals, and Rose certainly dresses for the occasion. She wears many of her signature items and colors, including a purple hoodie and matching beanie, with some blue bootcut jeans.

The outfit is cosy but still cute, which suits the occasion of New Year’s Eve. Rose doesn’t usually wear hats but they definitely suit her, as the purple goes nice with her blonde hair. It’s also great to see the knit scarf that she originally wore in season 1 make a comeback. Since this is the last time viewers see Rose, it’s a perfect outfit to remember her by.

3 Western T-Shirt – “The Girl In The Fireplace”

While this episode arguably showed multiple ways that Rose’s character got worse, her style certainly didn’t. Here, she has a bit of a western rock and roll vibe, with a blue t-shirt that has a western print on it, blue jeans and a belt, with her hair tousled perfectly.

Overall, Rose looks like she should be at a concert somewhere, though carrying a gun around a deadly spacecraft is probably the second-best occasion for the look. The outfit is both old school and modern, which makes it perfect for an episode that involves the rapidly changing timeline of Madame de Pompadour’s life.

2 1950s Look – “The Idiot’s Lantern”

It’s always fun to see Rose dress up in the clothing of whatever time the Tardis has taken them, and this outfit is no exception. This is a very pretty vintage look that consists of a pink poodle skirt, with pink heels and a headband to match. Rose keeps the look cool by adding a biker-style jacket, which makes her look like she hangs out with Greasers.

The outfit has a lot of detail, from the patterns on the shoes to the netting of the skirt, and even the cute flower patch on the jacket. Overall, the look is fun and colorful, and it helps the audience get into the period of the episode.

1 Blue Leather Jacket And Purple Top – “The Stolen Earth”

This outfit is probably Rose’s most iconic one, and for good reason. She is wearing a dark blue leather jacket, with a violet top underneath, along with dark jeans and boots. And obviously, the outfit wouldn’t be complete without the giant gun she is constantly carrying. It perfectly matches the tough and futuristic vibe of the outfit.

Every Doctor Who fan remembers Rose’s appearance in this outfit, and how can they not? Rose looks like an iconic sci-fi action hero, which is a stark difference from the hoodie-toting London girl from the start of the series. The show’s costume department clearly did a fantastic job of telling Rose’s story through her wardrobe changes.
