Does Onward Have A Post-Credits Scene?

Pixar’s latest follows two elf brothers who go on a quest, but does Onward have a post-credits scene setting up a sequel or offering some extra fun? In recent years, the animation studio has offered fans a mixture of original properties and sequels to their beloved IP, but after two sequels in a row, Pixar is releasing two original stories in 2020: Onward and Soul. Directed by Dan Scanlon (Monsters University) from a script he co-wrote with Jason Headley and Keith Bunin, Onward stars Tom Holland and Chris Pratt as the film’s two main characters. They’re joined by Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer, who voice the boys’ mother and a mythical manticore respectively.

As revealed in the Onward movie trailers, the Pixar film follows Ian (Holland) and Barley Lightfoot (Pratt), who inherit a wizard’s staff from their father who passed away when they were young. When a spell to bring their dad back for one day goes awry, they’ll have to go on a quest to acquire a magical stone that will allow them to speak with their father one last time. True to Pixar form, Onward is an emotionally resonant story about family and legacy, wrapped up in a world full of fantasy. And now the movie is hitting theaters around the world.

Those checking out Onward in theaters may be wondering if the Pixar movie has any credits scenes or Easter eggs worth sticking around for. Onward does NOT have a post-credits scene or any fun extras. While the credits are always worth watching to get an idea of who’s involved in making the film, Onward audiences shouldn’t expect any additional scenes or other extras.

While some Pixar movies do have after-credits scenes, it’s not uncommon for the animation studio’s offerings to skip the stingers. For example, 2019’s Toy Story 4 had a couple credits scenes and extra Easter eggs, but 2018’s Incredibles 2 didn’t feature any credits scenes. Since it’s unclear whether Onward will get a sequel, and, without spoiling the ending, we can say Scanlon’s movie does tie up its loose ends before the credits start, it makes sense that Pixar would forgo any teases.

It also remains to be seen whether Onward will be successful enough to warrant a sequel. Though Onward’s box office projections have been bolstered by positive movie reviews, we won’t know whether it will turn out to be a success until after the film completes its theatrical run. It’s also unclear if Onward will inspire the kind of love that had fans calling for a sequel to The Incredibles for over a decade. That said, since Pixar has plenty of veritable hits and animated classics under their belt, Onward’s likely to continue their success. So for now, all moviegoers need to know is that Onward doesn’t have a post-credits scene to stick around for.
