With Miles Morales picking up the mantel of Spider-Man in the new game Spider-Man: Miles Morales, many fans of the Spider-Man for the PS4 are nervous about the fate of Peter Parker. With Miles taking on the duties of the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, it seems like the prognosis for Peter might be bleak, or that he will lay down the suit for good as the young, determined Miles attempts to make the streets a safer place after Peter’s mentorship comes to an end.

In past editions of Miles’ story, like his first appearance in Ultimate Fallout, Peter’s passing is what leads to the duties of Spider-Man being passed on. Because of this history of Miles’ era as the Spider-Man being preceded by Peter’s death, players are understandably nervous to know if the character they fell in love with through Spider-Man in 2018 will be gone from the story for good. While most fans of the game are very excited for  Miles’ story arc via this new sequel, many may prefer that it not be at the expense of Peter Parker’s life being snuffed prematurely.

Fans of Peter Parker in the original Spider-Man game will be happy to know that Miles’ rise as Spider-Man will not be because Peter has been killed. In fact, while he suffers an injury near the beginning of the game, Peter’s absence is due to him taking some time away from the action with MJ, as they go on a working vacation for the Daily Bugle. While he is gone, Miles’ dawns the Spider-Man suit and takes over Peter’s heroic antics in protecting the city, hoping to make his late father and Peter proud.

Miles Morales Takes Up Protecting The City As Spider-Man

Leading up to Peter’s departure from Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ main storyline, he and Miles spend time training together. This mentorship was established in the first Spider-Man game, when Miles helps Peter through many different parts of the story. Miles is even a playable character in certain moments of the original Marvel’s Spider-Man game, already establishing a relationship between his character and the players. Peter continues to mentor Miles after he is also bitten by a genetically-enhanced spider, leading up to Peter’s accident and the time away. He is also the one to give Miles his first, proper Spider-Man suit. Peter acts as a stand in parental figure for Miles in place of his deceased father, as Peter also lost his father at a young age and wants to help Miles’ succeed as a person.

The relationship shared by the two protagonists in Spider-Man: Miles Morales can continue without fear for fans who don’t want to see Peter be removed from the story. Knowing that Miles doesn’t lose another father figure, and that Peter’s departure from the storyline is only temporary, will likely bolster fans who were nervous to play the game only to lose a character they have become attached to. With Peter alive and well, that could mean that there is more of his story in the works for Spider-Man fans around the globe.
