America’s favorite macabre family returns in The Addams Family (2019), an animated reboot of the franchise – but does it have an end-credits scene setting up a sequel? Created by Charles Addams as a comic strip in 1938, The Addams Family has been adapted to all kinds of media, including a short-lived live-action sitcom in the 60s, two animated TV series, a trilogy of live-action movies in the 90s and now a 3D animated adventure. This latest film comes from the directors of Sausage Party, Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, with a script by Matt Lieberman (The Christmas Chronicles) and Pamela Pettler (Corpse Bride).

The Addams Family stars Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron as Gomez and Morticia Addams, while Chloë Grace Moretz and Finn Wolfhard voice the two youngsters Wednesday and Pugsley. The supporting cast is rounded out by Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester, Bette Midler as Grandmama, Snoop Dogg as Cousin Itt and Allison Janney as Margaux Needler. The Addams Family movie trailers have depicted an updated design for the titular family, maintaining their gothic look while offering a stylized spin. Now, The Addams Family is hitting theaters around the world.

Those checking out The Addams Family in theaters may be wondering whether there’s anything after the credits to stick around and watch. Unfortunately, The Addams Family does NOT have a post-credits scene nor anything else after the credits to wait around for. The movie does, however, feature a sing-along to the Addams Family theme song before the credits officially begin. While the credits are always worth watching to get an idea of who had a hand in creating a film, those seeing The Addams Family shouldn’t expect any extra scenes.

It makes sense that The Addams Family wouldn’t have a post-credits scene considering a sequel isn’t assured. Certainly, as Illumination and Disney have proved with their respective studios, there’s potential for massively successful animated franchises. It remains to be seen, though, whether The Addams Family will be a hit. While some Addams Family movie reviews have been positive, and audiences have been generally favorable, the film holds a 43 percent Rotten Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. A sequel will likely come down to how successful the movie is at the box office, but it’s unclear whether the animated film can hold its own, even as it offers family-friendly counter-programming to the likes of the R-rated Joker and October’s typically horror-fronted release slate.

It is a bit strange that The Addams Family didn’t go the route of including a stinger that adds some fun to the film’s runtime but doesn’t necessarily tease a sequel. In the past, some animated movies have included bloopers or other silly scenes after the credits as an extra bit of entertainment for anyone who stuck around. Certainly, the theme song sing-along tacked onto the end of the movie is a fun way to honor the franchise’s history, especially since many fans likely cringed at The Addams Family meme posters that attempted to modernize the characters. But the filmmakers chose not to include anything after the credits. So all moviegoers need to know going into The Addams Family is that they shouldn’t expect any post-credits scenes.
