8 J.J. Sneed

While “J.J. Sneed” is in last place in this ranking, don’t discount it, it just had some tough competition. This is still a great story and worth watching, but it didn’t quite tug at your heartstrings like the other episodes did. “J.J. Sneed” is the story of Maddie Hawkins, a girl who longs for an adventurous life. She gets wrapped up with the wrong guy, who is involved in some shady dealings, in search of a thrill and has to learn the hard way that at the end of the day, you have to have your own back.

This episode will still entertain fans and have them rooting for Maddie for take her power back.

7 These Old Bones

“These Old Bones”  is the tale of an old mountain women who is being forced out of her home by a big corporation and an upcoming lawyer, Genevieve. Ginnifer Goodwin and Kathleen Turner shine in this rendition of Dolly Parton’s song, “These Old Bones.”

As the story unravels, family secrets come out from hiding and it will touch the hearts of fans as they root for Bones, the mountain woman, to keep her home. Fans of Dolly will appreciate the authenticity of this story’s roots. “These Old Bones” teaches viewers to never forget where they come from which is one of country music’s long standing mottoes.

6 Cracker Jack

Grab your tissues for this one. “Cracker Jack” tells the story of four lifelong best friends, each facing their own struggles who are reunited for one weekend. They reminisce about a certain scruffy pup named Cracker Jack and how life was so much easier when they were kids and little Cracker Jack was still alive.

The friends come to grips with life as it is now as another certain dog appears into their lives. For fans that have human best friends and four legged best friends, this one will surely pull at their heartstrings.

5 Sugar Hill

Don’t expect to make it out of this one without shedding a tear. “Sugar Hill” tells the story of how true love can make a person feel like they’re flying but when it devastatingly ends, it can make the world crash around you. Harper and Logan have been intertwined in each other’s lives since they were kids and have always been able to find their way back to each other. But when Logan can no longer find his way back to the woman he loves, he finds himself in back in their hometown, Sugar Hill.

This is a beautifully created story that will have fans falling even more in love with the Dolly Parton’s “Sugar Hill”.

4 Down From Dover

“Down From Dover” is an inspiring story of young love facing the serious issues of the real world, like war, judgment, and making your own choices about your life. This story follows Lincoln and Delilah, high school sweethearts who are separated by the Vietnam War and Delilah’s judgmental father.

Fans will cheer for the young couple to reunite as their story continues to get more complicated. Viewers will be on the edge of their seats, waiting to see if the young lovers can make it through the obstacles life throws at them. Dolly fans will be crying over this one for awhile.

3 Two Doors Down

Dolly Parton has always believed in including everyone and allowing people of all walks of life to be apart of the family, which is proven in the episode of “Two Doors Down”. “Two Doors Down” explores the struggle of fighting against longstanding family traditions and standards. It shows how people need to accept themselves so they can stand up to others and not be bullied about their life choices. It’s an empowering tale of a brother and sister and while they love and support each other no matter what, not everyone else in the family shares the sentiment. Fans of Dolly will have “Two Doors Down” stuck in their heads all day after watching this one.

2 If I Had Wings

Family bonds and heartbreak is the theme of this tear-jerker and fans will not be disappointed with the way it represents one of Dolly’s most relatable songs. When three adult children of the same father are contacted by a woman to reunite with their estranged father, none of them can resist. There’s only one problem, their father does not wish to see them for it will make all the pain from his past come rushing back to him. This is the story of forgiveness and the ties that bide. This episode earned it’s number two spot with its captivating story and beautiful portrayal of the song.

1 Jolene

Coming in at number one, to no surprise of any Dolly fan, is “Jolene”. “Jolene” has been a fan favorite ever since it first came out in 1973. Julianne Hough does a fantastic job of portraying the red headed bombshell, Jolene. But she’s not the only one who shined in this episode. Dolly Parton herself appeared in “Jolene” as the fabulously wise Babe, owner of Baby Blues where Jolene sings.

This story demonstrates the fierce loyalty women have for each other and the way a female friendship can bring light into your life. Women can learn a lot from this installment of “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings” and that’s why this one is number one.
