A new restricted red-band trailer has been released for Don’t Breathe 2. The original film, simply titled Don’t Breathe, was released back in 2016. The horror/thriller follows the plot of three thieves who break into the home of a blind man in order to steal from him. However, they soon discover that the blind man isn’t as helpless as they believed him to be. The film premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival and opened to very positive reviews from critics.

The sequel takes place years after the first Don’t Breathe. The blind man from the previous movie named Norman (Stephen Lang) now lives with 11-year-old Phoenix (Madelyn Grace). He tries to live a quiet life, as he attempt to recreate the family that he had up until they had died as a result of a drunk driver. However, when more intruders attempt to break into his home, he once again proves why he is not one to be underestimated. Fede Álvarez returns to co-write with Rodo Sayagues, as they worked together on the first Don’t Breathe and the 2013 Evil Dead reboot. Álvarez will not be returning to direct, as Sayagues will be making his directorial debut.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Sony Pictures Entertainment released a new restricted red-band trailer for Don’t Breathe 2 earlier today. The clip features a tease at the new story, followed by some of the brutality that audiences can expect from the sequel. Given Norman’s blindness, the trailer displays some of the inventive ways that he fights the intruders. While the Don’t Breathe trailer isn’t necessarily gory, it teases plenty of violence. The first portion of the trailer displays what his new life entails. He’s training Phoenix to be more aware of her surroundings in a time of need. The trailer takes a darker tone as it displays the new group of intruders seeking to break into Norman’s home. From there, it features some of the brutal way that Norman begins to hunt them down one by one. It’s tonally very similar to the original film. However, it doesn’t give too much away on the side of the intruders other than the fact that they’re trying to find the girl.

With the first Don’t Breathe doing as well as it did, it should come as no surprise that a sequel was greenlit. The new trailer successfully delivers a whole lot of tension. While it does seem to include some possibly heavy spoilers regarding the fate of some of the intruders, it certainly teases the extent of some of the violence. However, it steers clear of much gore, so audiences will have to wait until the film hits theaters on August 13 to see just how violent the movie gets. The sound design of the Don’t Breathe 2 trailer alone is enough to make this one worth a trip to the movie theater.
