According to a DOOM Eternal datamine, two classic skins will allow the Doom Slayer to become DOOM 64’s marine and Quake’s Ranger protagonist. After two major DLC expansions and numerous Series events, Doom Eternal has more than 40 skins, ranging from majestic armors and wacky costumes to classic id Software homages. Although originally stating DOOM Eternal would not have microtransactions, the Bethesda studio later released purchasable Cosmetic Packs for players who missed certain skins during limited-time Twitch Prime Gaming offers.

Despite its campaign closing out with DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part 2 expansion, the game continues to be regularly updated with challenging in-game events, unlockable Series-tier cosmetics, and new modes to extend its longevity. One major example are its Master Levels, which give remixed campaign areas greater replayability in what are deemed the game’s most difficult fights. This feature was originally released with the base version of the game and later expanded with DOOM Eternal’s Super Gore Nest Master Level, and two more were added in the recent 6.66 update.

In a new leak shared by Twitter user YoshiGa8, it’s suggested DOOM Eternal’s next update or in-game event featuring a Series tier will bring two of the DOOM community’s most commonly requested Doom Slayer skins. Labeled the “Classic Marine” on its new Master Classic Collection box, the first is a DOOM 64 skin appearing to be the protagonist’s original model from the classic Nintendo 64 game’s end cutscene. It appears id Software’s second-most influential FPS franchise, Quake, is making its first appearance in DOOM Eternal with a Ranger skin, the canon name of the “Quakeguy.” While little information was provided about the leaked files, beardeddoomguy claims both skins have in-game models as of DOOM Eternal’s 6.66 update.

The original versions of DOOM 64 and Quake are still considered classics, but both games have been rejuvenated with remasters over the past year or so. DOOM 64 made its way to PC and modern consoles for the first time in 2020 with technical upgrades, 4K visuals, and a brand-new chapter taking place after the events of the original game – tying itself directly into the story of DOOM (2016). Meanwhile, Quake‘s recent remaster brought an assortment of its own quality-of-life changes, allows PC and new-gen console players to experience the 1996 FPS in 120fps with enhanced textures and models, dynamic lighting, and new features like official mod support.

Two of the most popularly requested skins are finally making their way to DOOM Eternal, and it may not be long until they can be unlocked or purchased. It’s unknown when the next update will release, but waiting players can check out DOOM Eternal’s arcade-style Horde Mode, which introduces onerous waves of randomized enemies and new challenges to the brutal, fast-paced FPS.
