A brand new image from Doom Patrol season 3 shows Robotman relaxing in a sauna with Garguax. The show, which began streaming its first season in 2019, stars April Bowlby, Diane Guerrero, Matt Bomer, Brendan Fraser, Timothy Dalton, Joivan Wade, Riley Shanahan, and Matthew Zuk. It follows the exploits of a team of superpowered outcasts led by a mad scientist with a heart of gold. Season 3 of Doom Patrol premieres on HBO Max on Thursday, September 23.

While plot details for the DC Comics-derived series are still mostly under wraps, the Doom Patrol season 3 trailer has revealed that it will include Madame Rouge, the Brotherhood of Evil, and the Sisterhood of Dada. It will pick up where season 2 ended, with most of the Doom Patrol getting trapped in wax after Candlemaker grabbed Chief’s daughter Dorothy, whose imaginary friends were wreaking havoc. The trailer shows the team breaking free of the wax quite easily, but remains mum on the fate of the other characters in question.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Though it doesn’t give much (if any) plot away, Entertainment Weekly has debuted a delightful new image from Doom Patrol season 3. Bizarrely, it depicts Robotman (Shanahan) relaxing in a sauna with the alien Garguax (Stephen Murphy). As an added treat, per ComicBook.com, HBO Max has dropped a series of new character posters as well, including a new glimpse at Michelle Gomez’s Madame Rouge. Check out the new image and the posters below:

As evidenced by these new images, Doom Patrol will be pulling plenty of new characters from the DC Comics bench for this season. Madame Rouge, who has an evil split personality, will play a major role, arriving from the future on an important mission she can’t remember. Garguax originated in the comics as an alien conquer who faced off against the Doom Patrol, though given the situation he’s seen in here, they may have patched things up. According to showrunner Jeremy Carver, “he’s been living a very different existence” since the 50s, so the dynamic is probably going to be very different.

Doom Patrol season 3 has already wrapped filming, so the can of worms is more than ready to be opened. Whatever happens in this third season, Doom Patrol is promising with these images that they will be keeping up the poppy, off-kilter fun of the first two. With the trailer hinting at additional characters – including the hyperintelligent gorilla Monsieur Mallah and The Brain, who is a brain linked to a computer network – things are certainly looking fun going forward, for comic fans and newbies alike.
