Dopinder is Totally A Member of X-Force Says Deadpool 2 Creative Team

Deadpool 2’s creative team confirm Dopinder as a member of the X-Force team. Audiences met Dopinder, portrayed by Karan Sori, in the first Deadpool film as viewers saw him serving as Wade Wilson’s taxi driver. Though, it soon becomes obvious that the character has a few personal issues of his own – and Deadpool becomes his confidante throughout their drives together, which turn into therapy sessions.

Thanks to Deadpool’s advice, Dopinder ends up kidnapping his cousin who has stolen the heart of his unrequited love. Considering how well-received the character was, fans were happy to see Dopinder continuing his work as a taxi driver in Deadpool 2, though, in small twist, his focus has turned to work on becoming a contract killer. But, since he doesn’t have any super powers and wasn’t exactly recruited into X-Force, is he still an X-Force member?

In an interview with Screen Rant for Deadpool 2’s home release at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, the creative team behind the franchise reveal that Dopinder is, in fact, a member of the X-Force. Ryan Reynolds – who also co-produced and co-wrote the film – stated that Dopinder is indeed a part of the X-Force team and likened him to the “backbone” of the entire story. He said: “My opinion he’s absolutely a part of X-Force. He’s the backbone of the operation until he’s brutally murdered in the first scene of the next movie.” Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick went along with the statement and further confirmed it with jokes stating that all the characters are set to die in the first scene of X-Force, though that’ll only be seen in the extended cut.

Deadpool 2, which was directed by David Leitch and released in May earlier this year, actually showcased the character trying to join X-Force directly. After getting a job at Sister Margaret’s School For Wayward Children, Dopinder learns of Wilson’s aims to put together the X-Force and requests to join to pursue his wish of being a contract killer. However, Deadpool denies his request to become a member of the team as Wilson believes he doesn’t have any actual powers apart from courage. At the end of the film, it’s Dopinder who runs over the abusive headmaster with his taxi, and then still goes onto express an interest in joining the X-Force.

With the amount of love that Dopinder received from fans, it’s not surprising that viewers are questioning whether he actually deserves to be made an official member of X-Force. Despite not having any abilities, he’s proven his passion – and, indeed, his courage – for helping Deadpool in any way he can. It’s fair to say that Dopinder is the character that largely makes up part of the comedic value of the film, and that’s something that should very much continue in Drew Goddard’s X-Force movie, carrying over characters from the Deadpool series into that installment.
