Warning: contains spoilers for chapter 80 of Dragon Ball Super

In the latest Dragon Ball Super story arc Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah just met an opponent who can go well beyond the power of any Saiyan, the villainous Gas. As the Heeter Gang’s muscle, Gas was already quite a formidable foe, but now after copying Granolah’s wish and becoming the strongest fighter in the universe, Gas is nearly unstoppable.

The Heeter Gang have become increasingly threatening in Dragon Ball Super. After tricking Granolah into retrieving the Dragon Balls for them, their leader Elec used the artifacts to make Gas unreasonably powerful. Even without the strength granted by the dragon, Gas was a formidable opponent, meaning this power-up makes him that much more threatening. He wasted little time and effort subduing Goku and Vegeta. However, it was not so easy with Granolah. While Granolah lacked Gas’ strength, power, and ferocity, he was a better tactician and smarter fighter. That proved the difference, at least initially.

Now, in chapter 80 of Dragon Ball Super, Elec rips off Gas’s headband which unleashed what could only be described as the Heeter species’ equivalent to the Saiyan Great Ape transformation. That is, without the restraining power of the headband, the inherent Heeter mindset takes over. Like the Great Ape transformation, that mindset is powered by complete, unadulterated rage and raw emotion. Similarly to the Saiyan Great Apes, Gas physically changed into a bigger, taller, Predator-like form that just oozed unstoppable brute force.

Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah are caught completely off guard. Gas tears through them, overcoming any attack or defense they present. Indeed, the more they fight and resist, the wilder and stronger Gas becomes. Indeed, his action are much like the Great Ape rampages Frieza employed when attacking a planet. Just as the Great Apes will rampage until the source of their transformation, the energy produced by moonlight, is eliminated or destroyed, Gas’ rage keeps growing even to the point where he begins attacking the other members of the Heeter Gang.

Unlike the Saiyans, however, the Heeters seem to have the ability to bring their rage under control independent of eliminating the source of the transformation or the replacement of a restraining head band, necklace, or bracelet. It is not an easy task, which suggests why Heeters prefer wearing their restraining measures, but somehow within all that rage, Gas is able to gain control, and calm the savage beast within him.

As a result, Gas experiences another transformation that returns him to his previous form. While he may resemble the former Gas, Elec’s commentary suggests that he still retains much, if not all, of the powers he had in “beast mode.”The difference is that now he will have a much better ability to harness those abilities strategically in order to succeed. This “awakening” is quite similar to Goku and Vegeta’s transformation into the Super Saiyan 4 form. Super Sayan 4 gives users the power of a Great Ape with the clarity and tactical experience of a Super Saiyan. While the Super Saiyan 4 form is not canon, with the exception of Ultra Instinct, no other form seems comparably powerful. However, Gas‘ new form suggests that the Heeters have their own version of the Super Saiyan 4 form. If that is indeed the case, then Granolah and the whole Dragon Ball Super universe has much to fear from the Heeter Gang.
