Dungeons & Dragons set photos offer a first look at Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez in costume. The role-playing game beloved by nostalgic shows like Stranger Things first became a sensation in the 1970s. A Dungeons & Dragons movie was released in 2000 but failed miserably at capturing the spirit of the game and was a flop at the box office.

Over two decades after the notoriously bad first attempt a turning Dungeons & Dragons into a movie, Hollywood will take another stab at translating the free-form role-playing game into a film. Game Night filmmakers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have signed on to write and direct, with a cast that includes Pine and Rodriguez along with Hugh Grant, Sophia Lillis, Justice Smith, Chloe Coleman and Regé-Jean Page. Work is currently underway on the movie, with Iceland and Belfast, Northern Ireland serving as shooting locations.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Northern Ireland is indeed where shooting is right now happening with leads Pine and Rodriguez officially in attendance. The Daily Mail published BTS shots of both those stars and it’s possible to see a lot of Rodriguez’s costume and some of Pine’s. The images can be seen via the Twitter account TrekkieKindTrekker in the space below:

Rodriguez does a good job of hiding her face as she rides a scooter around the location but the lower part of her very Dungeons & Dragons costume is clearly visible as are her hands. Pine in the meantime is also hiding his face with a mask and his costume jacket can be seen in the shot. The Daily Mail also has a shot of Lillis but it’s impossible to see any of her costume as she’s covered up in a robe and wearing a face mask.

It is of course no surprise to see both Rodriguez and Pine wearing medieval-looking attire as this is a Dungeons & Dragons movie. Rodriguez’s costume looks particularly hardcore, suggesting that her character is a warrior – which would of course be in keeping with Rodriguez’s action-oriented on-screen persona (no one thought Rodriguez would be playing a damsel in distress). These BTS shots are unfortunately about all there is to look at or discuss when it comes to Dungeons & Dragons as details on the film’s plot are under wraps. Now that the movie is filming however, there are bound to be more leaks as spies go to work trying to catch glimpses of the movie’s various stars in costume. It remains to be seen how Daley and Goldstein will adapt Dungeons & Dragons for the movies, but their comedy background suggests the film could be a relatively light-hearted treatment. Of course, comedy touches like the casting of Marlon Wayans didn’t really work for the 2000 Dungeons & Dragons, which ended up being maligned by fans of the game and ignored by general audiences.
