Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is currently one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood. Though not all of his movies have been massive hits, the actor is known for his charm, wit, and generally great personality. Likewise, the actor is gearing up to have a very busy next few years, especially with his upcoming DC role as Black Adam.

In the past, however, the former wrestler has actually taken on several different kinds of roles. Looking specifically at some of the stronger ones, here is our list of Dwayne Johnson’s 10 best movies according to IMDb.

10 Gridiron Gang (2006) (6.9)

Based on a true story, Gridiron Gang is the story of the Kilpatrick Mustangs, a football team comprised of young boys at a juvenile detention center. Starring as Sean Porter, Dwayne Johnson attempts to be a positive force in the boys’ lives by coaching them in football.

Like many other sports movies, Gridiron Gang has a lot of charm and inspiring notes. While there are definitely far greater sports movies out there, any sports fan can still enjoy this film. Though it may be the worst of the best Dwayne Johnson films according to IMDb, Gridiron Gang is still well worth a watch.

9 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) (6.9)

The modern reboot of the original Jumanji (1995) was met with mostly positive reactions. While the original is only marginally better according to the website, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle still managed to wow fans both old and new. Centered on how the game evolves over time, the Dwayne Johnson film is set within the world of an RPG video game.

With a stellar cast featuring the likes of Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart as well, the new film was an incredibly fun, action-packed adventure full of plenty of humor and heart. With plenty of easter eggs from the original film as well, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is understandably one of the better Dwayne Johnson films.

8 Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) (7.0)

Two years after starring in the successful reboot, Dwayne Johnson and the rest of the cast from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle would return for the recent Jumanji: The Next Level. With a slightly different cast, this sequel actually manages to deliver a lot of unique laughs, without rehashing everything from the first one as well.

Likewise, the film is (for the time being) tied with the original Robin Williams film. Though it is really hard to compare the two, there is still a lot within the newest film that just makes it incredibly fun to watch.

7 Fast & Furious 6 (2013) (7.1)

As the second film to feature Johnson in the role of Hobbs, Fast & Furious 6 is definitely one of the better films in the franchise. By this point in the series, the films had definitely drifted away from their more street-level and car focused films and dove head first into the action-packed adventure films they are today.

Like in the 5th film, Johnson feels very comfortable in his role as Hobbs. Furthermore, this film seems to utilize him far more than the previous one. Overall, while it is not the worst film in the series, Fast & Furious 6 is also definitely not the best. Though it was nice to see a bit more of Johnson, that was arguably one of the strongest points throughout the whole film.

6 Fighting with My Family (2019) (7.1)

Earlier this year, Fighting with My Family hit theaters and received a surprising amount of positive reception. Based on the documentary that followed the true events, the film is actually one of the better family-friendly comedies starring Johnson. Furthermore, considering how the actual events revolve around WWE, Johnson feels right at home within the world of the film.

Fighting with My Family also does a great job of commenting on a lot of the gendered issues within the world of wrestling, as well as other issues that Paige faced early on in her career. With some strong themes embedded within a great true story, it is easy to see why this is considered to be one of Johnson’s best.

5 Furious 7 (2015) (7.2)

As Paul Walker’s last installment in the franchise before his tragic death, it would make sense for this film to rank higher than others in terms of ratings. Not only is it arguably the best in the series, but Walker’s character was written off in such a great way as well.

Between the other action sequences in the film as well, director James Wan and the stunt coordinators really outdid themselves with this film. In regards to Johnson though, he once again reprised his role as Hobbs delivering an even stronger performance than before. While there are still plenty of silly moments within the film, Jonson’s charm and the incredibly heartfelt ending delivered one of the most powerful experiences from a Fast and Furious film yet.

4 WWE The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment Vol 1 (2011) (7.3)

For fans of Dwayne Johnson’s wrestling career, this is definitely one film you won’t want to miss. Centered on some of his biggest fights early in his career, this film is actually much more of a reel highlighting some of Johnson’s biggest achievements. Granted, for those who aren’t fans of wrestling, then there is very little appeal to this movie.

Overall, WWE The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment Vol 1 is great for those who have loved Dwayne Johnson from the beginning. Acting as a celebration of the man, the film overall is a surprisingly well put together recap of his wrestling career. While there, unfortunately, isn’t something for everyone in this, wrestling fans still have a lot to love.

3 Fast Five (2011) (7.3)

Fast Five is the first film to introduce Dwayne Johnson to the franchise. Making his debut as Hobbs, Johnson starts to cause problems for Dom and the gang as they try to accomplish a heist in Rio. Though he isn’t in this film as often as the latter ones, Johnson’s performance was still one of the stronger aspects of the film.

Between all other films in the franchise, Fast Five has the highest IMDb rating. However, with Furious 7 being .1 stars away, it is truly a toss up as to which film is the superior. Regardless, there’s no denying that Fast Five helped to reignite interest in the struggling franchise. Likewise, casting Johnson in such a major role easily worked in the film’s favor, solidifying it as one of the actor’s best films yet.

2 Moana (2016) (7.6)

It’s no surprise that Moana is incredibly high on a list of Dwayne Johnson’s best films. As the voice of Maui in the film, Johnson delivers a very emotional performance that is also full of the usual charm and humor associated with him. Johnson occasionally sings in the film as well, proving that the actor can also carry a tune.

Despite only lending his voice to the role, Johnson really delivers one of his strongest performances yet. Combined with beautiful animation that also shows off both lead actor’s culture, Moana is easily one of Disney’s best animated achievements in recent years.

1 Polynesian Power (2005) (8.2)

For those who are unfamiliar, Polynesian Power is a documentary that focuses on the presence of Samoan athletes in American football. The film itself is rather interesting as it shows the incredible stories of how some of these athletes came to be. Johnson himself acts as the narrator of the film, once again using his strong voice to fit the rest of the narrative.

Though it is certainly a significant departure from his work in Moana, Johnson’s voice still fits incredibly well within the film. Once again, most sports fans would likely be very surprised by how well the documentary is put together. While it is a bit more of an unconventional role for Johnson, it is no surprise that Polynesian Power scores so highly.
