Dancing With The Stars alum Cheryl Burke believes being alone is the “best thing” and has helped her deal with her emotions amid her split from Matthew Lawrence. News that Cheryl and Matthew were going their separate ways surfaced in February, three years after they tied the knot. The estranged couple, whose romance history dates as far back as 2007, sparked several rumors and theories when they announced their split. Some fans believed their relationship went down the drain due to their different views about having children.

Months after Cheryl and Matthew exchanged vows, they decided to put their plans to start a family on hold amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Cheryl also noted at the time that she wasn’t sure getting pregnant was ideal for her. However, despite speculations that having kids was a reason for Cheryl and Matthew’s split, a source confirmed that the couple did not have problems with starting a family when they were still together. Matthew hasn’t made any public comments since he and Cheryl announced their split, but she has been quite open about her feelings.

On Sunday, March 6, the California native, who had initially revealed that it was hard announcing her divorce, opened up about being on her own after calling it quits. Cheryl revealed via Instagram, “I’ve realized that whenever I am at a point in my life where I have some big emotions to process, the best thing for me to do is to spend some time alone — other than being with [my dog] Ysa of course, but I truly feel like she is a part of me, so she doesn’t count.” The reality star also noted, “feeling my feelings is new to me.”

Cheryl, who wants to be a DWTS judge, explained how she has spent her life being numb to her emotions and is learning that facing these emotions is harder. However, while the ballroom dancer is experiencing complicated emotions, she noted that she is realizing she has a tendency to judge her own feelings, which magnifies when she is with other people. Cheryl explained, “I get so focused on other people’s perception of how I’m dealing with my emotions — which then in turn leads me to question if I am feeling things the ‘right way.'” Cheryl ended her update by explaining that “being alone for a few days has been the best thing” and told her fans not to feel guilty for needing space.

Divorce is not easy to deal with, and Cheryl’s recent post proves it once again. The Dancing With The Stars pro dancer has been going through complex emotions since her split from Matthew. However, she has been brave enough to open up about her struggles, and doing so is positively affecting her. Gradually, Cheryl is discovering what helps keep her to keep her emotions in check. In addition, she plans to follow up on her discovery, which is a good sign. Cheryl’s decision to share her struggles with fans is a welcome one as it would no doubt be helpful to many. Hopefully, Cheryl will eventually find learn to deal with her emotions and find the peace she needs at this time.
