Joseph Anders has appeared as a recurring character in both the original Dynasty series as well as the reboot. He serves as the majordomo to the Carrington family and is known for being disciplined, assertive, and orderly. Anders has worked for both Blake Carrington and his father Thomas Carrington.

Anders always stands out as the reasonable person that brings a sense of calm to all the drama that takes place within and outside the walls of the Carrington Manor. Despite not always agreeing with him, Blake tends to trust his judgment. Here are a couple of things viewers didn’t know about him.

10 Number Of Children

In the original series, Anders also had a daughter named Kirby, who ended up dating Jeff Colby and Adam. He also had a son named Sean who ended up marrying Alexis. Anders also had another daughter named Victoria.

In the Dynasty reboot, Anders has two children. The first child that viewers were introduced to was his daughter Kirby. She was mentioned a couple of times in the first season then she appeared in the second season and became a recurring character. Anders is later revealed to be the biological father of Steven Carrington. Steven was conceived after Anders had an affair with Alexis.

9 Drink Specialist

Anders knows a thing or two about making the perfect drink. He even has his own signature drink that he likes to serve to Blake. He refers to it as the Anders Manhatten. Blake is a big fan of the drink.

Anders has been seen mixing cocktails on several occasions too, mostly during dinners at the Carrington Manor, and at galas that he has been invited too. In the second season, he taught Sammy Jo how to mix cocktails properly at his hotel after a customer complained that his drink was tasteless.

8 Leaving His Job

Anders doesn’t always agree with Blake. He was more fond of Blake’s father Thomas. Despite his occasional feelings of disdain towards Blake, he has always remained loyal to him.

The disagreements have caused Anders to leave his job twice. He was once fired by Blake and he once quit willingly too. However, there is nothing Anders loves more than his job. Even when he had a good gig helping out Sammy Jo at La Mirage. he decided to quit and return to the Carrington Manor.

7 Life-long Dream

Despite being an elderly man, Anders still has a major dream he hopes to turn into a reality. His dream is to run a beachfront restaurant in his home country of New Zealand.

Anders has plans to eventually retire to his home country and run his own business. In the episode titled “Robin Hood Rescues,” Anders and Blake had a chance to bond while they were being held captive in Moldavia. Blake ended up giving him the deed to a property in New Zealand where he’ll eventually set up his restaurant business when he retired.

6 How He Began Working For The Carringtons

Anders started out as a petty thief. This is why he found himself relating to Sammy Jo, who was initially a petty thief too. One day, he tried to pickpocket a man and ended up getting caught. The man (Thomas Carrington) decided not to punish him and offered him a job at his house instead.

Anders accepted the job and began working as the Carrington’s majordomo. He was in charge of every aspect of the Carringtons’ lives, including caring for little Blake. He thus was able to witness the retirement of Thomas and the eventual rise of Blake to one of the country’s richest people.

5 Affair With Alexis

Shortly after he was born, Alexis and Blake’s son Adam was kidnapped by unknown people. This created a somber mood among everyone in the Carrington Manor, including Anders.

Blake and Alexis ended up falling apart as a result of the kidnapping. She thus sought comfort in Anders and ended up sleeping with him. Alexis ended up becoming pregnant but lied to Blake that the child was his. She would later give birth to Steven Carrington. who everyone believed was Blake’s son until the truth was revealed in his adulthood.

4 Marriage

In the Season One episode “A Line from the Past”, Anders confesses to Sam that he has an ex-wife and a daughter back in Australia. Viewers were later introduced to his daughter Kirby but the identity of his wife remained a mystery.

In the original series, Anders’ wife was well known. Her name was Alicia Rowan. Anders married her after only two weeks of knowing her. She later cheated on him. And when her lover cheated too, she killed him. She was later charged with murder and sentenced to a psychiatric facility

3 Home

While the reboot revealed that Anders came from New Zealand, his home in the original series was in Denver. Anders and his wife Alicia lived in a decent Denver home with their children Sean, Victoria, and Kirby.

When Sean and Victoria became adults, and Kirby went to study in the Sorbonne, Anders decided to move into the Carrington Manor where he stayed until his character was killed off in the series. Hopefully, more of Anders’ children will be revealed in the reboot, as well as the identity of his wife.

2 He Is Quite The Schemer

Anders always appeared so nice and disciplined on the outside that his evil deeds tend to go unnoticed. For example, in the first season, he was so threatened by the presence of Celia Machado that he began threatening her. He even merged her assets with those of Blake so that he could monitor her spending.

In the episode titled “Company Slut,” Anders manipulated Sam into hooking up with Steven’s ex-boyfriend, Ted Dinard so that he and Steven wouldn’t get back together. And in the episode “The Best Things in Life”, he helped Celia bribe someone. He also helped Blake brine a prison guard to prevent Jeff’s father Cecil Colby from being released.

1 Name

While the character is often referred to as Anders in the reboot, he was commonly referred to as Joseph in the original series. Anders sounds like a cooler name so the change was definitely a good one.

In the original series, the character was portrayed by Lee Bergere. He lasted four seasons. In the reboot, the character is portrayed by Alan Dale, Hopefully, Alan will be in the role a lot longer so long as the series doesn’t get canceled. The good news is that the series is quite popular and he’s a fan favorite character too.
