One of the most recent seasons of American Horror Story was filled with flashbacks, familiar characters, and many loose ends that were finally tied up. Apocalypse takes on a post-apocalyptic world led by the supposed Antichrist and the enemies that will do anything to stop his destruction. The season even paid homage to classic horror movies that some fans might’ve not noticed the first time.

While fans anxiously await the anthology series’s tenth season, perhaps they should take a trip down memory lane and re-experience the fictional world of witches, demons, cults, and everything in between.

12 Wilhemina Venable

“I’m Wilhemina Venable, welcome to Outpost 3. – “How did you get past security without an appointment?”

Ms. Wilhemina Venable (Sarah Paulson) isn’t a friendly face and seems to be one step ahead of everyone else. Pre-apocalypse, she kept everything in check at Kineros Robotics, which led her to manage Outpost 3. She made a grand entrance in the present time where she introduces herself to two (un)lucky survivors that are in Outpost 3 as well.

This season was filled with flashbacks that explained the background of several characters and Cordelia Goode’s (Paulson) plan to outsmart Michael Langdon (Cody Fern). When Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy) visits Kineros Robotics, viewers are shown how persuaded mortals can be against witches. With a few muttered words, Myrtle can bewitch Wilhemina, but not before she uttered a final snarky comment. Of all of the characters Sarah Paulson has played in the series, Wilhemina is undoubtedly the least likable.

11 Cordelia Goode

“Find our sisters.” – “Misty, I would like you to meet an exceptional young witch, this is Mallory.”

One of the best scenes in Apocalypse is in “Forbidden Fruit” when Cordelia Goode (Sarah Paulson), Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts), and Myrtle Snow reappear to save the day. Coven intertwines with this season, and the entrance the witches made was perfect. Viewers might’ve been confused when Cordelia says her first line in the season, but it’s quickly explained when viewers find out that several survivors were planted in Outpost 3.

By the end, Cordelia is alive and well and has successfully saved the planet from doom. She’s back at the academy in New Orleans, Louisiana, unaware of Mallory’s (Billie Lourd) power and what many of the witches prevented from happening. Even though Mallory is introduced to the rest of the coven by the end of the season, hopefully, there’s a future storyline that can continue.

10 Mr. Gallant

“Fini. How much do you love?” – “Without a blowdryer, sometimes I even astonish myself.”

Evan Peters has played a handful of evil and unlikable characters in the series, but the role he plays in Apocalypse is semi-likable for the most part.

He plays a wealthy hairdresser named Mr. Gallant, who is known for cutting and styling the hair of the rich and famous. Before the apocalypse, Mr. Gallant is found at his salon, where he’s just completed a fresh cut on an heiress named Coco St. Pierre Vanderbilt’s (Leslie Grossman).

9 Jeff Pfister

“Tell me that wasn’t the last of it.” – “It’s not little, lady.”

It’s not abnormal for the main cast to take on more than one role in a season, but Evan Peters had quite the work cut out for him when he embodied Jeff Pfister. A billionaire scientist, Jeff can first be found in his workspace overlooking his partner, Mutt Nutter (Billy Eichner) and taking a mysterious drug.

Jeff and Mutt are later shocked to see Myrtle in their lab, and when she located the TV monitor displaying several outposts in the United States, she commented on the “little” symbols on the screen. Jeff makes it clear that those symbols mean much more than she thinks they do. In fact, he and Mutt walk right into Myrtle’s trap and tell her everything she needs to know about the plans to come. This tech bro isn’t as evil as Tate Langdon and James March, but he does possess very evil tendencies.

8 Mutt Nutter

“I ordered more bro, how are you coming?” – “What’s that?”

Mutt Nutter is just as out of touch as Jeff is and shares some of his dangerous habits.

Later, Myrtle makes her control and power apparent, she spares Mutt and Jeff’s lives, but not before Mutt utters his very last line. It’s a little unclear if she actually killed the brainiac duo, but she definitely made an impression.

7 Dinah Stevens

“Come in, don’t be shy.” – “You would’ve done no different if you were Queen.”

Dinah Stevens (Adina Porter) is well aware of her power and is shacked up in Outpost 3 as she waits for the witches. She’s more commonly known as an actress and talk show host and paves her own path without any help. When two young survivors are added to the group, she welcomes them with open arms.

Even though Dinah made a deal with Cordelia to summon Papa Legba (Lance Reddick), she sides with Michael when he offers them their lives if they kneel before him. When Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) makes a surprise appearance, Dinah defends her decisions.

6 Mallory

“Take a sip so we can post.” – “And in changing the past, a part of me will always wonder, what is truly means for the future.”

Before being a “gray” in Outpost 3, Mallory is Coco’s assistant and is often quietly standing by her side. While they’re in the hair salon pre-apocalypse, she’s found hanging Coco a green drink and pressuring her to drink it so they can post on social media.

By the end of the season, Mallory has proven herself to be the most powerful witch of all. She successfully took out Michael when she traveled back in time and is now exactly where she needs to be. But like many American Horror Story season finales, some things are better left a bit unraveled.

5 Coco St. Pierre Vanderbilt

“Am I the first one to get this cut?” – “Die again, f*ck face!”

There often seems to be a materialistic character or two in the series who never seem to last long. At first glance, Coco seems to be that character. She’s introduced in Mr. Gallant’s hair salon seat, where she’s seen getting a new haircut. She’s worried about her appearance because she wants to be a social media influencer.

By the final episode titled “Apocalypse Then,” Coco’s mind-erase spell has been lifted, and she’s re-discovered she’s a witch. When Michael approaches the witches, Coco tried to save Marie Laveau but quickly met her demise when she realized Michael couldn’t be killed.

4 Michael Langdon

“Of course you are.” – “Take me to the house, I can be with you…forever.”

Michael Langdon is introduced into the season when he arrives at Outpost 3, unannounced. He approached Wilhemina by surprise and seemingly already knew she ran this post. While Wilhemina doesn’t trust Michael, he becomes a mainstay of this sanctuary.

When Mallory goes back to 2015 to take care of Michael, he’s still a teenager, unaware of his potential or powers. To prevent the apocalypse, Mallory runs him over with her car. When his pseudo-grandmother Constance Langdon (Jessica Lange) finds him bloodied and dying out on the street, his last words are heartbreaking in a weird way. While Constance grapples with the idea of him living in Murder House forever, she realizes how much trauma he’s already caused.

3 Madison Montgomery

“Surprise b*tch, I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.” – “Oh, f*ck, I guess it’s back to retail.”

Even though the young starlet didn’t have as much of a prominent role in Apocalypse, she still made a lasting impression. She’s brought back from her “Personal Hell” by Michael but sides with Cordelia and the rest of the witches. When they arrive at Outpost 3, her first line in the season is iconic and ironic.

Madison’s character development flourished in this season, and when the witches were in danger, she took one for the team. Unfortunately, she’s shot back to her “Personal Hell” when Michael kills her.

2 John Henry Moore

“I quit every week.” – “Any last words? Oh, right.”

Once John Henry Moore (Cheyenne Jackson) realizes Michael’s potential, he quickly travels to the Hawthorne School for Exceptional Young Men and meets with the Warlock Council. When one of the other warlocks finds him in his office, he questions his nicotine habits, prompted by Michael’s abilities.

John is the only warlock who hasn’t been influenced by Michael and Miriam Mead (Kathy Bates) and is resurrected by Cordelia after Miriam kills him. After the witches helped John sentence the remaining warlocks and Miriam, he makes a slight joke before they’re burned alive.

1 Miriam Mead

“It was contaminated from the fallout.” – “We’ve been waiting our whole lives for this, we’re here to help.”

Miriam Mead becomes a mainstay at Outpost 3 and Michael’s right-hand lady. She also pretends to be Wilhemina’s confidant so that she can weasel information from her. After the survivors question what happened in the last few weeks, she quickly chimes in and assures them everything was contaminated after the apocalypse.

By the end of the season, Miriam Mead was seemingly destroyed by Cordelia. But as the final scene is shot, she arrives at a young couple’s home, searching for her new savior and the future Antichrist.
