InnerSloth, the development team behind the multiplayer indie game Among Us, has recently shared early sketches of the game’s new Airship map. Among Us, which tasks players with cooperatively repairing a damaged spaceship while avoiding murderous player-controlled Impostors, was released in 2018 but experienced a huge surge in popularity last year. The game has risen to become one of the most successful mobile indie games of all time.

At the end of last month, developer InnerSloth added a brand new Among Us map, the Airship. Unlike the game’s usual spaceship setting, the Airship takes players to a bright red vessel soaring just above the clouds. The new map brought with it new tasks, which crewmates are required to complete in order to repair the ship and win the game, as well as new cosmetic hats to unlock. InnerSloth has also detailed some plans for the game’s future, including revamping the game’s simplistic art style, adding larger game lobbies, and creating a port to the Xbox One and Series X/S.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

InnerSloth recently shared, via the Among Us Twitter page, a series of early sketches from designing Among Us‘ new Airship map. The series of four sketches start off simple and becomes gradually more complex until the level appears as it does in the game today. It seems that various important rooms, such as the cockpit and storage room, are established, and then other areas are fit around them. InnerSloth’s tweet also includes touching, if slightly tongue-in-cheek, advice explaining that those who feel like simple sketches will one day become beautiful Airships.

While support from InnerSloth is key to keeping Among Us relevant, the game’s dedicated fanbase also produces its own new content. New mods are constantly being created for the game, tweaking rules or changing mechanics in order to keep the game fresh. For example, the No Visor mod turns the tense cooperative title into a full-on horror experience as one player takes the role of a ghost who terrorizes other players.

Among Us is the perfect example of a game that was overlooked upon release but discovered by gamers years after. Since this resurgence, InnerSloth has been fully dedicated to supporting the game to ensure that its quality and popularity continue to grow. Communication with players, such as showing off the design process behind the Airship, is a key part of this support that allows Among Us‘ fanbase to be a part of the game’s continued development.
