Here’s a full cast guide for Netflix’s ambitious anime original, Eden. Science fiction has often pondered what the world might look like if humankind were overrun by machines, and from the fiery battlefields of Terminator‘s future to the digital prison of The Matrix, it doesn’t look pretty. Set 1000 years after human extinction, Eden takes a slightly different view of the robotic apocalypse. The mechanized population lives in relative peace, and the existence of man is but a myth, with most robots blissfully unaware of their creation. Robots who start asking awkward questions are sent for reprogramming, casting them in the oppressed role usually reserved for humans in these stories.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Eden was created by animation and visual effects expert Justin Leach, and is directed by Yasuhiro Irie (Fullmetal Alchemist, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), with Kimiko Ueno serving as writer. Animated by the Japanese wing of CGCG Studios Inc., Eden is a hugely ambitious blend of traditional anime values with modern CGI, and this is reflected in the impressive casts of both the Japanese and English language versions. These are the voices you’ll hear while visiting Eden.

Sara – Ruby Rose Turner/Marika Kôno

The protagonist of Eden, Sara is discovered by robots who were taught to believe humans never existed. Finding allies among the clanking hunks of metal around her, Sara embarks on a journey of cooperation between two very different species. In English, Sara is voiced by Ruby Rose Turner, a young actress perhaps known best as Phyllis in Fuller House. The Japanese version of Sara is played by Marika Kôno, who previously appeared in Overlord and Afterschool Dice Club. Kari Wahlgren serves as Sara’s voice during infancy.

E92 – David Tennant/Kentarô Itô

One of the two robots who discover and protect Sara in Eden, E92’s voice comes courtesy of the Tenth Doctor himself, David Tennant. In addition to his time as a Time Lord, Tennant plays Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter, Kilgrave in Jessica Jones, and Crowley in Good Omens. His Japanese counterpart is Kentarô Itô, who’s widely known for playing Chôji in Naruto and Renji in Bleach.

A37 – Rosario Dawson/Kyôko Hikami

The second of the robot pairing that accidentally becomes responsible for young Sara in Eden, A37 is portrayed in English by Rosario Dawson, was recently made headlines as the live-action Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian. Dawson is no stranger to voice work, having previously breathed life into animated versions of Wonder Woman, as well as Batgirl in The LEGO Batman Movie. In the original Japanese Eden, Dawson’s role is occupied by Kyôko Hikami, who has multiple credits in the Naruto and Pokémon franchises, among many others.

Zero – Neil Patrick Harris/Kôichi Yamadera

Neil Patrick Harris on villain duty in a robot-filled dystopian future, and perhaps not for the only time in 2021, if The Matrix 4 rumors prove correct. Zero is the baddie responsible for erasing humans from Eden’s history and reprogramming units that remember the truth. Harris is famous for playing Barney in How I Met Your Mother and Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events. The Japanese Zero is Kôichi Yamadera, whose impressive resume includes Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop, Beerus in Dragon Ball Super, Togusa in Ghost in the Shell, and Rosinante Donquixote in One Piece.

S566 – J.P. Karliak/Tarusuke Shingaki

In their efforts to protect Sara from harm, E92 and A37 turn to another robot, S566, who’s voiced in English dub by J.P. Karliak. Appearing in a range of animated and video game fare, Karliak is the titular infant in Boss Baby: Back in Business. Tarusuke Shingaki, his plays S566 in Eden‘s Japanese version is known for Mirio in My Hero Academia.

Zurich – Cassandra Lee Morris/Yūki Kuwahara

On her adventure, Sara is aided by an AI known as Zurich, who accompanies her the girl much of Eden‘s 4-episode run, and has a certain connection to robot history. Cassandra Lee Morris gives Zurich its voice, and viewers might recognize her from the English dubs of Naruto/Boruto or My Hero Academia, as well as a litany of video games. Change Zurich’s voice setting to Japanese, and you’ll hear Yūki Kuwahara, who Demon Slayer fans know as Naho Takada.

Geneva – Julie Nathanson/Yūko Kaida

Another AI program encountered in Eden‘s world, Geneva is played by Julie Nathanson, an experienced voice actress in the realm of video games, who recently also appeared in Batman: The Long Halloween as Gilda Dent. Geneva’s Japanese voice, Yūko Kaida, has frequently overdubbed the likes of Gal Gadot, Rachel Weisz and Anne Hathaway.
