A cheeky and sarcastic spoof trailer for Elden Ring pokes fun at some of the game’s more silly and out-there aspects, including the implementation of the player’s steed Torrent. While it has earned exceptionally high amounts of praise from all corners of the gaming world since its release, Elden Ring has also produced plenty of comedic content online.

Honest Game Trailers is a YouTube series from Fandom Games that was initially envisioned as an offshoot to Honest Trailers and serves to provide entertaining and informative comedy content about the latest video games. The series’ format is one that hinges upon parodying what some might perceive as the overly dramatic and “epic” nature of film and game trailers. Through this formula, Honest Game Trailers will highlight its subjects’ peculiarities, strengths, and shortcomings. While not a review series, Honest Game Trailers will often make its general opinions about a game clear by the end of each video. Considering the game’s astonishing popularity, Fandom Games, by its own account, was inundated with requests to cover Elden Ring following its release.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Honest Game Trailers delivered earlier today with a video on the Fandom Games channel teasing Elden Ring for its complex fantasy plot, infamous difficulty, abstract presentation, and more. The video also poked fun at Torrent, the magical steed that players will use to traverse The Lands Between. When touching on the game’s challenges and its players’ tendency to avoid them, the mock trailer says that fleeing is “much easier” thanks to the inclusion of Torrent and the steed’s double-jump ability. Later on, the video also jokes about how many players will find it difficult to land hits while on horseback.

While the trailer adopts a tongue-in-cheek tone throughout, it does raise an interesting point about Torrent: the steed does make running away from open-world fights significantly easier. Although it is much more accessible than other games from developer FromSoftware, there are still many gamers who feel that Elden Ring is very difficult. Giving players the option to run away from certain fights they aren’t ready for lessens this challenge a bit.

This trailer is emblematic of how Elden Ring has surpassed all other FromSoftware games when it comes to its popularity. The video is chock-full of clever in-jokes and references relating to the game, which likely would not have been as prevalent in the early days of the “Soulsborne” series when they were still considered more niche titles. Jokes about the game’s difficulty and overpowered magical horse aside, it’s clear that the minds behind Honest Game Trailers have a lot of respect for Elden Ring.

Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
