It appears that the immensely anticipated The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t come out until 2026, according to an industry insider. It’s rather understandable considering that there’s little to no information regarding the game, although Bethesda might’ve recently hinted at the possible setting of the upcoming sequel.

On New Year’s eve, almost a month ago, Bethesda published a festive post on Twitter. It included an image of Skyrim’s map, but most importantly, it also highlighted another Tamriel province, Hammerfell, which could’ve easily gone unnoticed as the inscription was made with a faded font. To spice things up, Bethesda accompanied the image with a meaningful phrase, “Transcribe the past and map the future.” Considering that there are two provinces featured, the tweet literally shows the past and the future of The Elder Scrolls series revealing that the next game will potentially take place in Hammerfell.

Last week, well-known insider Tyler McVicker took it to Twitter to share his opinions on when to expect any of the upcoming big single-player RPGs from Bethesda. According to him, the fan community shouldn’t expect The Elder Scrolls 6 to release earlier than 2026, which leaves players with 5 years of painful waiting. The closest massive-scale project by the studio is expected to be Starfield, which itself requires a year or two to get finalized. After that, TES6 should be the focus, and speaking of any possible Fallout sequels, McVicker claimed that the continuation of the post-apocalyptic franchise would likely release in the 2030s. On a slightly more positive note, Fallout: New Vegas 2 might come out in the second half of the 2020s.

Whenever The Elder Scrolls 6 hits the shelves, it’ll be available on both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as hinted by the console manufacturers. Despite the sensational acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft, TES6 is unlikely to be an Xbox exclusive. While there are no official statements regarding all the specific platforms the project will be available on, Sony included TES6 in its December’s Game of the Year poll under the “Most anticipated game” category. It doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of the title being an Xbox exclusive, but Sony clearly acts as if it expects the game to launch on PS5.

The latest piece of insider information does not contradict what Bethesda has been saying for quite some time. Both Todd Howard and Pete Hines multiple times reiterated that TES6 is years away from its release date, and it will only come out after Starfield. 2026 is a safe bet for the next big Elder Scrolls game considering that the aforementioned original sci-fi RPG doesn’t have a set release date, either.
