This summer’s upcoming High Isle chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online will introduce two more companions, Ember and Isobel, as unique NPC followers. Being an MMORPG, The Elder Scrolls Online is a step away from other games in the Elder Scrolls franchise (typically single-player action RPGs) as it allows for PvP encounters and online cooperation as well as exploration of Tamriel’s extensive cultures and history. In order to bring ESO more in line with previous titles, developer ZeniMax Online Studios has introduced the companion system, following on from the core followers system which appeared in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

Excitingly, the new High Isle chapter will introduce an entirely new location and content not yet explored in any Elder Scrolls content. Elder Scrolls Online‘s High Isle setting is located within The Systres archipelago off the west coast of Tamriel, specifically southwest of Daggerfall and northwest of Summerset. Similar to feudalistic medieval Europe, High Isle presents an entirely new region within the Elder Scrolls franchise and has only previously been seen once on a single Redguard map. The upcoming ESO chapter will explore the Legacy of the Bretons, expanding the available lore on this hybrid race with a complex history.

Largely positive player reactions followed the introduction of the new companion system in 2021’s Blackwood chapter, which added the Dark Elf Nightblade, Mirri Elendis, and Dragonknight Imperial, Bastian Hallix. These unique NPCs have individual skill sets and subclasses that can be expanded as they level up alongside player progression, and they will fight by players’ sides and aid gameplay. Despite achieving the rather irksome feat of filling Tamriel with clones, ESO‘s companion system will continue into the High Isle chapter, introducing Ember and Isobel, presenting an option for players that wish to tackle PvE content in a solo manner.

Ember And Isobel Are ESO: High Isle’s New Companions

Relatively little has been revealed of Ember and Isobel’s backgrounds in order to keep the chapter storyline shrouded in mystery. However, ZOS’s Creative Director, Rich Lambert, revealed a few details at the 2022 ESO Global Reveal Event streamed on 27 January on the official Bethesda Softworks YouTube channel. The Khajiit female, Ember, grew up on the streets and is morally flexible; she is intelligent and has a knack for magic. Meanwhile, the Breton, Isobel, is an aspiring knight who tries to maintain an honorable ideal. Lambert has revealed that she is not preachy, lecturing, or stiff in manner and will always try to do right by players.

Ember and Isobel will be unique to High Isle, so players must purchase the chapter to gain access. Alongside these new companions, never-before-seen Elder Scrolls lore and locations will be introduced with High Isle‘s entirely new region and Legacy of the Bretons content. 2022 is proving to be an exciting year for ESO as exciting features such as the return of two-player mounts and account-wide achievements are being implemented. High Isle‘s June release also brings with it a full Spanish translation of the game, as well as a new collectible card minigame that is played entirely within The Elder Scrolls OnlineTales of Tribute.
