Elizabeth Olsen thinks there’s a possibility the Young Avengers will turn up in the MCU, though she doesn’t yet know what the plan is. As the franchise moves further into Phase 4, the MCU’s future plans are beginning to take shape, and fans are abuzz with theories about what’s coming next. The first few projects to emerge from this era, from Olsen’s WandaVision to the recently-debuted Black Widow, have laid the groundwork for events to come. In many instances, those seem to include the formation of the Young Avengers from the comics.

Marvel has yet to confirm the Young Avengers are headed for the MCU. However, with the exception of Black Widow, all of the Phase 4 projects to premiere so far have featured at least one member of the team from the comics, and others are slated to arrive in the future. WandaVision included twins Tommy (Speed) and Billy (Wiccan), while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier briefly introduced Eli Bradley (Patriot). Finally, Loki included Kid Loki among the many variants of Tom Hiddleston’s titular character.

Even if the MCU is gradually ramping up to a Young Avengers team-up, many of its stars – and perhaps Kevin Feige himself – remain in the dark. During a virtual Q&A with the New York Film Academy (via Wanda Lizzie and ComicBook.com), Olsen touched upon the idea of the Young Avengers gearing up in the MCU. The recently-Emmy nominated actress admitted she has no idea if it is happening, but it feels like a genuine possibility right now:

“I have no idea. I don’t even know if — actually, if you even ask [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige that, I think he’ll honestly say he doesn’t know. They really plan phases at a time, and then after those complete, they move onto the next phase.

“It seems like from my perspective that that could be a possibility, but I don’t think they have a real plan for that yet. But they keep all their options open.”

It seems strange to imagine any facet of the MCU that Feige isn’t yet aware of, but Olsen makes a fair point when it comes to planning out each Phase as they come. A Young Avengers project isn’t scheduled for the coming years, so it could be that it hasn’t quite reached the development stage. At the same time, the sheer number of Young Avengers popping up in the MCU over the next few years hardly feels like a coincidence.

In addition to the aforementioned characters who have already appeared onscreen, at least three others will debut soon: Kate Bishop (this year’s Hawkeye), America Chavez (2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), and a grown Cassie Lang (2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania). Because of their spread out arrivals, it stands to reason that the Young Avengers are still some years away. Therefore, it makes sense that Marvel might not have fully planned out their formation. Still, the players are being set up, so don’t be surprised if a new MCU team assembles sooner rather than later.
