Former Shameless star Emmy Rossum hits back at a Twitter troll who tried to shame her for her nude scenes in the long-running comedy-drama. The Showtime series, which debuted back in 2011, is gearing up for its 11th and final season. Based on the British show of the same name, Shameless charts the misfortunes and misadventures of the Gallagher clan, an Irish-American family headed up by degenerate alcoholic Frank (William H. Macy). Rossum took the lead role of Fiona from the show’s inception through season 9.

The show was initially a hit for the network, hailed for its realistic portrayal of poverty in America, and tackling issues that other shows often shy away from. Macy and Rossum were both given plaudits for their roles, with Macy bringing humor and humanity to a character that would otherwise be a cliched drunk. Rossum’s portrayal of Fiona as a fearless young girl forced to take on the burden of raising her siblings was also praised for its emotional depth and range. However, in recent years the show has become a thin parody of itself, featuring less realistic storylines in favor of shock value.

Now, Rossum has responded to a troll on Twitter who tried to shame her for her frequent Shameless nude scenes. The Twitter user replied to Rossum’s tweet about a political T-shirt she wanted to buy after Wednesday night’s Vice-Presidential debate, by saying her “I GET PAID TO GET NAKED ON TV” T-shirts were all sold out. Rossum clapped back by retorting that the feels no shame about appearing nude on a TV show that presents life as it is, including sex. She then added a final zinger, saying sex is awesome, and that the troll has probably never had any. You can see the tweet thread below:

Not only is the reply hilarious, but it seems to have quieted the troll, with him not responding since. It’s not a surprise that Rossum would defend herself, given the childish attack on her, and it’s good to know that the actress is willing to stand up for healthy depictions of sex on-screen. It’s also clear that Rossum still feels a lot of affection for her time on Shameless, something she mentioned when announcing that she would be leaving the show after season 9.

Rossum’s sentiments speak to a broader issue, of course, with men often attempting to shame women online for what they perceive to be their lack of modesty. By taking a stand, Rossum is standing up against a double standard that allows women to be objectified by men on the one hand, while simultaneously being criticized by them when it suits them. Rossum feels no shame about getting nude for sex scenes, and won’t let herself be attacked for doing so during her time on Shameless.
