The Madrigal Casita from Disney’s Encanto has been recreated in impressive 3D street art form. Following Mirabel Madrigal and her magical family, the hit animated film was initially released in theaters last November for a 30-day window. While Encanto received largely positive reviews, it underperformed at the box office numbers due to the rise of COVID-19 cases in late 2021. It was not until the film arrived on Disney+ that its viewership skyrocketed, turning it into a phenomenon. In fact, Encanto has performed so well on the streaming platform that Disney is planning to re-release in theaters to celebrate its huge success.

Encanto‘s fun story, mixed with memorable moments and loveable characters, is one of the many reasons why the film has seen such success. Encanto has also been praised for its soundtrack, with its catchy original songs from Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Germaine Franco becoming TikTok sensations and dominating the U.S. Billboard Top 100 charts. However, Encanto is also the first Disney film to be set in Columbia, where the Madrigal family’s beloved home, “Casita,” proves to be just as magical as the family members themselves (bar Mirabel).

Artist Nate Baranowski has created a stunning 3D chalk art version of the Madrigal’s Casita. Baranowski, a street painter who has created many pieces of 3D artwork, took to Twitter to share his recent Encanto-inspired creation. Baranowki created a mind-bending artwork of Mirabel on Casita’s stairs looking towards the people walking by. While the art has been painted onto the sidewalk, it appears to descend multiple levels of the Madrigal’s home, and the impressive art has even caught the eye of Lin-Manuel Miranda himself. Despite not having her own powers like her family, Mirabel, voiced by Brookyln Nine-Nine‘s Stephanie Beatriz, is a fan-favorite leading character. Given this, it is understandable that Baranowski has chosen the character as the focus of his art, and that he has placed her within her Castia. Indeed, Casita is not only the main location in Encanto, but also proves itself to be a major character in the film. With its own personality and the magical ability to transform and move itself to help (and often tease) the Madrigal family, Casita is at the heart of the film’s story, acting as a catalyst for Mirabel’s own self-discovery.

Encanto has been on an incredible journey since its arrival on Disney+, achieving some major feats. The animated project landed the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film, as well as earning three Oscar nominations for the upcoming 2022 Academy Awards for Best Original Score, Song and Animated Feature. Encanto has certainly captured the public’s heart, which is no small part thanks to the imaginative and visually-stunning setting of the Madrigal’s Casita. To see it recreated so beautifully in an everyday setting is certainly heartwarming to see, and this artwork is by no means the only piece that the Disney film has inspired.
