Encanto’s Luisa Actor Reveals Character’s Birthday in Fun New Video

Encanto actor Jessica Darrow has revealed her character Luisa’s birthday in a new video. Encanto was Disney’s hit animated musical of 2021. The film tells the tale of the Madrigal family who all possess magic abilities, except for the gift-less Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz), who must struggle with the frustration of being the only family member not to be granted powers. Encanto was helmed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, and includes hit songs written by Hamilton and Moana composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Germaine Franco. Last week, Encanto won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 2022 Academy Awards.

Ever since Encanto was released, many of the cast and crew members have taken to social media to promote the film (particularly Bush), as well as give tidbits of information about the behind-the-scenes production, and the film’s loveable ensemble of characters. Impressively, despite Encanto coming out nearly five months ago, there seems to be no lack of inside knowledge still to be shared with the world. Recently, director Bush has been sharing tweets day by day, revealing each Madrigal family member’s birthday, only taking a break recently to share pictures of his team’s rather successful Oscars night.

In a recent tweet from Bush, in what he states will be the “last Madrigal birthday for a while,” the director has shared a video of Luisa voice-actor Jessica Darrow as she herself shares the character’s birthday. In the video, Darrow certainly seems to be excited as she reveals that Luisa (whose gift is super-human strength) was in fact born on November 14th. As the video continues, Darrow also points out that this birthday makes her zodiac sign Scorpio, stating, “she’s a water sign. Duh!” See the full video below:

As with Encanto‘s other Madrigal family members, it is unknown whether Darrow herself was able to choose the birthday for Luisa, or if it was determined sometime during Encanto’s production. However, for those interested in astrology, the Scorpio sign certainly suits the character, as Scorpios are supposedly fearless and loyal, while also mysterious and secretive. All of these elements certainly track against the Encanto character, as the oldest Madrigal sister’s entire storyline revolves around having to be the “strong one” in the family, but secretly worrying that she isn’t able to hold everything together.

As more information continues to surface about the world of Encanto, it becomes clearer and clearer how much thought went into creating the hit animated film, and especially its characters. Encanto is, after all, an extremely character-driven movie that, despite all its fun magic, ultimately focuses on a family trying to come together and heal. This clear attention to detail when creating these characters is certainly what gives the Disney movie its heart, as well as made Encanto a clear front-runner to win the Academy Award on Oscar night.
