The writers for Avengers: Endgame joke that Hulk threw his bench at the Punisher. At this point, pretty much everyone has at least heard of the Incredible Hulk and the Punisher. Bruce Banner has been at the center of six movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with The Incredible Hulk in 2008. Frank Castle appeared in a few movies before the MCU, but most recently, Jon Bernthal played the character in Netflix’s The Punisher, which is technically part of the MCU.

After seeing the events of Avengers: Infinity War, fans thought that Avengers: Endgame would be a bloodbath. That turned out to not really be the case, with the Avengers bringing back the dusted heroes and only a few main characters dying in the process. Black Widow sacrificed her life on Vormir to get the Soul Stone, while Iron Man sacrificed his life to finally put an end to Thanos’ reign. Both deaths were devastating to the other heroes in the film, but Bruce took Natasha’s death especially hard and threw a bench into a nearby forest when he heard the news. Now, it turns out someone might have been at the receiving end of the throw.

When replying to a fan on Twitter, the directors and writers of Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers, joked that Frank Castle was the unfortunate one at the receiving end of Hulk’s throw. The Russos’ original tweet can be seen below:

As mentioned above, both Hulk and the Punisher are technically apart of the MCU, but the latter’s future is uncertain. The Punisher was canceled early last year, along with Jessica Jones, despite the shows two seasons getting rave reviews by fans and critics. However, with word that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil might team up with Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, Frank Castle could, in theory, join the film side of the MCU as well. That being said, all of this is far from confirmed, so fans might never get to see Bernthal play the Punisher again. Mark Ruffalo is still under contract for two more Marvel movies, so the Hulk will no doubt be included in Phase 4.

Netflix’s Marvel shows and the MCU movies have never really mentioned each other, but most fans would love to see the two intersect in future movies. Many fans would much rather have Bernthal and Cox return to their roles rather than Marvel Studios trying to recast them. The Russo Brothers definitely just threw Frank Castle’s name out there to make an Avengers: Endgame joke on Twitter, but fans are still holding out hope for seeing the Punisher in a future MCU movie.
