Final Fantasy XIV keeps getting better with each expansion and Endwalker continues these improvements with Role Quests. This style of questing was first implemented in Shadowbringers after Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida announced that they would be retiring the traditional story quests for every job. With the addition of Dancer and Gunbreaker, there were 18 jobs in the previous expansion. Before Shadowbringers, there were separate stories for each job, leading to a few having better storylines than the other jobs. Endwalker’s Role Quests prove that FFXIV keeps improving by involving characters from the main plot and allowing the writers to focus on five unique stories.

The story for classes in A Realm Reborn flowed right into a new storyline after adventurers acquired their job crystal. The level cap has traditionally been increased by 10 with each expansion. This has resulted in more stories being added to the growing job count. While not bad, these quests were separate from the main plot and had varying levels of enjoyment from fans. With so many stories being created for every job, some would be a little lackluster. Shadowbringers fixed this issue by discarding quests for all jobs and instead implemented stories for each role. These storylines had a direct payoff during the Main Scenario Quest and involved important characters. Luckily, players that have yet to experience this fantastic expansion can access Shadowbringers and all previous stories during the Free Trial.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker introduces five unique Role Questlines instead of the four in Shadowbringers. In order to start these quests, players must have completed the Main Scenario Quest “At World’s End.” They also need to have a job of the specific role to level 85 before starting the missions. The five roles are Physical Melee DPS, Physical Ranged DPS, Tank, Magical DPS, and Healer. They can all be unlocked in the same area of Radz-at-Han. While not tying directly into the story like in Shadowbringers, these Role Quests involve important characters met on the Warrior of Light’s journey. Players can check a list of Main Scenario Quests in FFXIV Endwalker to find out how many missions they are away from unlocking these quests. All five questlines involve detailed stories that are well worth completing.

FFXIV: Endwalker’s Role Quests Are Better Than Past Expansions’ Job Quests

The Role Quests in Radz-at-Han can be found in a room called Sundrop past the Hall of the Radiant Host. Adventurers must speak to their respective Delegate for each role, marked with a green bubble and a plus sign. Just like in Shadowbringers, players will need to travel to different locations during the questline. Each set of Role Quests are rich in story and build on the foundation created in the Endwalker Main Scenario Quests. Adventurers that are playing as a Sage or Reaper in FFXIV should practice their rotation before attempting these quests as they can be challenging for newer players. The Delegates for each Role Quests are:

  • Gridanian Delegate – Tank: Paladin, Warrior, Dark Knight, Gunbreaker
  • Lominsan Delegate – Melee DPS: Monk, Dragoon, Ninja, Samurai, Reaper
  • Ala Mhigan Delegate – Healer: White Mage, Scholar, Astrologian, Sage
  • Ishgardian Delegate – Magical DPS: Black Mage, Red Mage, Summoner
  • Doman Delegate – Ranged Physical DPS: Bard, Dancer, Machinist

Roles Quests in FFXIV were a fantastic addition in Shadowbringers and with Endwalker, help to flesh out more of the worldThey also make gaining rewards at the end of each storyline much easier to acquire for players, since they do not have to complete quests for every job. If not at level 85, every adventurer should take the time to complete all the Role Quests after seeing Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker‘s amazing ending.
