Released in January of 2019, Escape Room quickly became a rare box office hit based on an original idea, grossing $155.7 million worldwide on a budget of a mere $9 million. While some critics were dismissive of the film, criticizing its writing and character development, audiences were drawn in by the film’s inventive premise and creative traps.

Soon after the film became a box office hit, a sequel was greenlit. Titled Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, the sequel follows the survivors of Minos’ escape rooms as they face their toughest challenges yet. Releasing on July 16, the cast of the sequel features many actors who viewers will recognize.
