The trailer for Euphoria season 2, episode 4, teases a possible character’s death. While Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to make bank at the box office, in which Zendaya plays MJ, she has simultaneously been starring in HBO’s critically-acclaimed teen drama as Rue Bennett, a recovering teenage drug addict. After a two-year layoff, Euphoria returned with a second season on January 9. However, the long wait was mitigated by the release of two special episodes produced during the early days of the pandemic.

The first season of Euphoria garnered acclaim and controversy for its uncompromising depiction of troubled teen relationships, and in season 2, two love triangles have been the main focus thus far. The first three episodes set up an anxiety-ridden secret relationship between Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), which they have managed to keep hidden from her best friend and his ex-girlfriend, Maddy (Alexa Demie). Meanwhile, the soulful stoner Elliot (Dominic Fike), who experienced an instant connection with Rue, has also begun to grow on her girlfriend, Jules (Hunter Schafer).

Now, the promo for Euphoria season 2 episode 4 is here, previewing the events of the next chapter titled “You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can,” a phrase famous among French Surrealists. The trailer begins with Rue opening her newly acquired suitcase full of drugs, which she is meant to distribute though she also partially plans to use, and ends with shots of Rue and Elliot in a church seemingly for a funeral service, hinting at a possible character’s death. However, this could be just another drug-induced vision for Rue. Watch the trailer below:

Episode 3’s ending was perhaps Euphoria‘s darkest yet, as Rue uses a packet of fentanyl from the suitcase she was given by the schoolteacher-turned-drug-supplier, Laurie (Martha Kelly). Zendaya has revealed that Rue will reach “rock bottom” at some point in season 2, and she seems well on her way there. Not only is she continuing her downward spiral of drug use, but now she will ostensibly become a dealer as well.

To exacerbate Rue’s situation, she also appeared to sever the relationship with her sponsor, Ali (Colman Domingo), who was the focus of Rue’s special episode. Besides Rue’s ongoing drug use and the dual love triangles, some of season 2’s prominent subplots are the conflict between Nate and his dad over the stolen disk and Lexi’s (Maude Apatow) play inspired by her frustration with her sister, Cassie. This and much more will be the focus of the next episode of Euphoria, which airs Sunday night on HBO.
