Jules gets the tape of her encounter with Cal back from Nate in the latest episode of Euphoria season 2 and what she does with it has the potential to change everything for several characters. Cal was revealed to be Nate’s father after he and Jules meet via a hookup app. Unbeknownst to Jules, Cal recorded their encounter and the tape has changed hands several times throughout the show. Initially, Nate stole it from his father, but Maddy ended up in possession of it at the end of Euphoria season 1 just as her relationship with Nate fell apart and, considering her character, it seemed as if Maddy could use it as a tool for revenge against her toxic on-and-off boyfriend.

Throughout Euphoria season 2, the tape of Jules has lingered over the proceedings as the show has invested heavily in Cal, Nate, and the Jacobs family. Maddy proved to be as volatile as ever when she found out that Nate and her best friend Cassie had begun a secret relationship and she looked prime to take her revenge against Nate by doing something with the video. Instead, Euphoria season 2 delivers one of its most tense scenes yet as Nate threatens Maddy with a gun and gets the tape back from her to hand it over to Jules. Nate’s intentions are made clear, as he’s more interested in protecting his father’s business than his father’s reputation, but giving it back to Jules is an interesting choice for Nate considering there’s no way to know what she will do with it.

While Euphoria season 2 hasn’t given Jules much to do across the six episodes that have aired so far, there are past moments that hint at what she will likely do with the tape. One interaction from season 1 stands out, as Cal confronted Jules at a carnival and pleaded with her not to ruin his life. Jules said that was never her intention and she had no plans to do so, making it unlikely that she would go public with the video. This was before she finds out that Nate has been catfishing her on the hookup app where she met his father, however, so Jules’ mind could have changed since then.

Despite how things have played out, though, Jules has never been a malicious person and has proven to be one of the most well-rounded characters on Euphoria. Jules simply seeking revenge would be out of line with what has been revealed about her so far. There are also Jules’ complicated feelings toward Nate to consider. While it’s clear that she has a certain disdain for him because of last season’s events, their interaction in his truck seems to hint that there is something more between the two of them. Nate tells Jules that “everything [he] ever said was true,” hinting at their online romance that occurred last season.

Jules agrees and seems to have the same feelings for Nate, but it remains unclear what those feelings are. Euphoria has consistently hinted at something between the two and it having something to do with Nate struggling with his sexuality, but the show has so far held back from diving into either story. At this point, a season 2 relationship between Nate and Jules would be a mistake for the show, but it seems like the show could be setting up a future for the two. What that relationship looks like remains to be seen, but it seems more than likely that Jules will just destroy the tape or at least keep it hidden for the foreseeable future.

Euphoria airs new episodes every Sunday on HBO Max.
