Evan Peters reveals how his appearance in WandaVision was kept a secret. The actor appeared at the end of the Marvel Studios show’s fifth episode, just when Vision finally started to confront Wanda about the reality in Westview. Peters was introduced as Pietro Maximoff, which spawned countless theories since he played the part in the separated Fox X-Men Universe, with many positing that it’s the gateway to the multiverse.

Ultimately, this wasn’t the case. It’s eventually revealed that Peters was just fake Pietro, sent by Agatha Harkness to cause more chaos in Wanda’s world. This was in an effort to find out how Scarlet Witch created the hex that led to the Maximoff Anomaly. Instead, the actor portrayed a random Westview resident named Ralph Boehner — a creative decision that was met with divisive opinions from viewers. Whatever the reception to his appearance in WandaVision, however, Peters seems to enjoy the experience as he gamely reminisced what it was like working on the project.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Speaking with The Wrap, Peters looked back on his involvement with WandaVision and detailed how Marvel Studios kept it on the down-low. According to him, he found it funny that he had to be physically covered every single time he arrived and left the set for his scenes, saying “That was hilarious. I’d actually be brought to (the “WandaVision”) set in a cloak and an umbrella.”

Marvel Studios is notorious for keeping their future projects shrouded in secrecy. Casting, in particular, has been quietly executed, especially for its Phase 4 projects. That being said, Peters’ appearance in WandaVision actually leaked before the actor debuted. After that, there had been expectations about his eventual cameo, leading to fans coming up with all sorts of theories trying to explain what his inclusion in the MCU would mean for the franchise’s plans for the multiverse. Fortunately for Kevin Feige and his team, Peters’ role in the Disney+ series wasn’t that simple. His casting was more of a red herring to deviate the attention of fans to what’s actually happening in the narrative, which is the eventual reveal that he’s nothing but a puppet of Agatha.

Marvel Studios appears to have learned their lesson with regard to Peters’ leaked appearance in WandaVision and further heightened their security for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The second MCU show on Disney+ also featured a surprise cameo in Julia Louis-Dreyfuss playing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. There was no indication that the comedic actress would be joining the MCU leading to her debut. With Loki now ongoing, this makes it curious who its surprise guest will be — if any.
