Even David Cross, the voice actor for Zero in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, hates the RC plane missions associated with his character. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was the largest GTA game ever when it was first released on the PlayStation 2 in 2004, and not only did it contain more cars, weapons, collectibles, and locations than previous titles, but more unique characters (and even more talented voice performers) as well.

Zero is a character the player was introduced to shortly after reaching San Fierro, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ version of San Francisco. A technical genius, Zero is also the owner of a small toy store which the player ends up purchasing, and after becoming a part-owner in Zero’s business they are tasked with what are widely considered to be some of the most frustrating missions in the entire Grand Theft Auto franchise. These involve flying one of Zero’s RC planes around the city and combating his business’ nemesis, and the poor flying controls coupled with the mission’s strict requirements (and Cross’ continued commentary) have made it stand out as one of the worst in the series.

Recently, a Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas player sent Cross a message on Twitter, stating that they were stuck on Zero’s infamous RC plane mission and “it’s making me never want to hear @davidcrosss speak again.” Cross seemed to understand perfectly what the player was talking about, and after they finally announced it had been completed the actor offered an apology for the annoyance, saying, “So sorry. I hated it too.” Check out the exchange below:

While it’s not surprising that even the voice actor for Zero hated the RC plane missions in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, it is pretty funny. If Cross himself once got stuck on the very same series of levels, one could only imagine how much more annoying (and existentially jarring) it would be for him to constantly hear his own voice berating him for doing poorly in the game.

As the wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to drag on, it’s no surprise more players are going back and playing earlier games in the series. While there are a number of mechanics, like the burglary missions in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which are due for a next-gen comeback, forcing players to take part in RC missions definitely isn’t one of them. For now, at least, players can take solace in the fact that David Cross hated that part of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas just as much as the rest of the world did.
