While Harley Quinn has been romantically involved with Poison Ivy and the Joker, there’s one Gotham-based criminal that may be an even better fit. When Harley was first branching out on her own, she found a surprising ally in one Batman rogue.

In her time as one of Gotham’s most unpredictable characters, Harley Quinn has allied herself with a number of colorful villains. Her first partner in crime was the Joker, who seduced the former Arkham Asylum psychiatrist away from a normal life and into one of super villainy. And after years of toxic unpleasantness, Harley Quinn dumped the Joker for good. Harley would find herself allied with her longtime friend and eventual romantic partner, Poison Ivy. While the two were much more compatible, even they’ve been on the occasional outs. Harley’s a free spirit and people person by nature, and even when not pursuing romantic endeavors, she gets along great with pretty much anyone.

So, when Harley was in the market for a new criminal partner, she jumped at the first opportunity that presented itself. In Harley Quinn #2 by Karl Kesel and Terry Dodson, the titular character has officially broken it off with the Joker and Harley Quinn is ready to move on. Not sure how to proceed, she tries looking for work in a local bar populated by criminals, before discovering that Two-Face is planning a new job. She drops in on the villain’s lair and does her best to convince Harvey Dent that she has what it takes to be his second-in-command. Though it takes Two-Face a flip of the coin to make a decision, he welcomes the eager Quinn into his fold.

Things do go a bit off the rails during Dent’s plan to hold an affluent man’s wife hostage, but Two-Face and Harley Quinn come to realize they actually share a tragic understanding of love. When the two begin arguing over the best way to handle their plan, Harvey reveals how he left his wife Gilda after being scarred, with Harley empathizing on being separated from true love. The two’s brief partnership was tumultuous at best, but there was a foundation that could potentially make for Harley’s strongest villainous partnership.

Would Harley Quinn and Harvey Dent make a good romantic couple? It’s highly unlikely as Two-Face has long abandoned love and Harley Quinn has a very particular standard for romance. But the pair of Batman villains share an interesting similarity as both came into the world of super villainy because of love. Harvey left his former life because he couldn’t bear the thought of his wife seeing him as a monster. Harley, on the other hand, left her entire life behind because she fell in love with the wrong person. While a relationship isn’t in the stars for the two, Two-Face’s hidden softer side may make him edge out Joker and Poison Ivy as Harley Quinn’s most improbable kindred spirit.
