Every American Horror Story Actor In Ratched

Ryan Murphy’s latest Netflix original series Ratched features several returning actors from his highly successfully horror anthology series American Horror Story. Ratched follows the story of Nurse Mildred Ratched, played by Sarah Paulson, as she navigates Lucia State Hospital while attempting to rescue her brother Edmund Tolleson from (Finn Wittrock) from the death penalty.

Murphy is known for featuring actors from American Horror Story in his other projects, such as American Crime Story and Scream Queens. Sarah Paulson has been a staple to the horror anthology since its first season AHS: Murder House and continues to contribute her talents to the prolific showrunner’s other projects.

While Sarah Paulson is at the forefront of Ratched’s story line, she is only one of four actors who previously appeared in seasons of American Horror Story. Finn Wittrock, Jon Jon Briones, and Harriet Sansom Harris are also featured in the brand new Netflix original series. Here’s every role they’ve played in both Ratched and American Horror Story.

Sarah Paulson

Sarah Paulson made her American Horror Story debut with her portrayal of Billie Dean Howard in the show’s season. Since then she has quickly become a fan-favorite actor. Once Paulson became a main cast member in American Horror Story: Asylum as Lana Winters, she continued to garner leading roles in the series. In AHS: Coven she became the supreme witch Cordelia Goode, followed by a double-header role as conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler in AHS: Freakshow. While she primarily portrayed Sally McKenna in AHS: Hotel, Paulson’s Billie Dean Howard also made a surprise reappearance when investigating the Hotel Cortez and returned for a second time in season 8, AHS: Apocalypse. Sarah Paulson is in nearly every season of American Horror Story except for AHS: 1984 but she will return for the upcoming season 10.

Finn Wittrock

Finn Wittrock’s first appearance in American Horror Story occurred in season 4, when he portrayed the sadistic and demented Dandy Mott. His character in AHS: Freakshow led to his return as Tristan Duffy and Rudolph Valentino in AHS: Hotel as well as a brief appearance in AHS: Roanoke as Jether Polk and AHS: 1984 as Bobby Richter. He will return for season 10 alongside Sarah Paulson. He also had a role in Ryan Murphy’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story as Jeffrey Trail.  

Returning Cast From American Horror Story: Apocalypse

While Sarah Paulson and Finn Wittrock are the most obvious American Horror Story alum that made an appearance in Ratched, Harriet Sansom Harris and Jon Jon Briones had their own roles. While Harris makes a brief appearance as Ingrid, her role in AHS: Apocalypse was integral in bringing the antichrist Michael Langdon to power. Once she completed her duty to Michael, he ended up on the doorstep of Ariel Augustus’s school for young warlocks. Jon Jon Briones’s Ariel Augustus was the next step in bringing upon the apocalypse due to his assertion that Michael could become the first male supreme. In Ratched, he portrays the corrupt and unlucky Dr. Richard Hanover, who runs Lucia State Hospital.

No matter how big or small an actor’s role has been in American Horror Story, it is likely Ryan Murphy will ensure his next project has another character for them to play. With four Murphy series alums in Ratched season 1, it is likely that season 2 may feature some more familiar faces from previous shows.
