The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has seven Black Books scattered across the isle of Solestheim, and each one grants the Dragonborn a new power. The Black Books were originally included alongside the Dragonborn DLC, which also included a new antagonist and the Solestheim isle. Every time the Dragonborn finds a Black Book, they are transported to the realm of Apocrypha, where the Daedric Prince Hermaeus More reigns supreme.

Depending on how far players have made it in their adventure across Skyrim, the Black Books will either be time-consuming to find or extremely easy to access. Like many hidden items in Skyrim, players have probably come across some of the Black Books without realizing it, as each of them is found at a fast travel location. Before the Black Books can be found, however, players will need to begin the Dragonborn DLC in Skyrim.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Each of the Black Books in Skyrim provides the Dragonborn with a choice of power upgrade or benefit. For example, the Black Book: Epistolary Acumen allows the Dragonborn to choose one of three abilities: Dragonborn Force, Dragonborn Flame, or Dragonborn Frost. Players can use these powers to enhance the Ulrelenting Force, Fire Breath, and Frost Breath shouts. Specifically, the Unrelenting Force shout inflicts more damage, Fire Breath spawns a Fire Wyrm when it kills an enemy, and Frost Breath encases enemies in ice. Additionally, for those who wish to experience The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim without Dragonborn shout mods, the Black Books are the best collectibles to find.

Where To Find Every Black Book In Skyrim

Most of the Black Books in Skyrim can be found in a few of the barrows, and several even be encountered naturally through the Dragonborn DLC’s main quest. If players end up wanting to change their Black Book power later, they simply need to reopen that particular Black Book to return to the realm of Apocrypha.
