Here’s every celebrity cameo featured in Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan’s “Shake It Off” parody video. Taylor Swift’s fifth album 1989 saw her complete the transition from country music to pop, and it featured several hit singles like “Bad Blood.” The biggest of the bunch, and the one that got plenty of airplay back in 2014, was “Shake It Off.” The song was an upbeat swipe at Swift’s own detractors and critics, and it’s now arguably her most famous song.

“Shake It Off” soon started popping up in other movies and TV shows, such as animated comedy Sing or The Magicians. Swift’s hit also became the subject of a rather annoying amount of parody videos at the peak of its popularity, though some – like The Hillywood Show’s cameo-packed video for their “Shake It Off” Supernatural parody – could be fun in their right.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The morning talk show Live with Kelly and Michael took its turn at parodying Taylor Swift’s hit. In Live’s “Shake It Off” parody co-hosts Michael Strahan and Kelly Ripa faithfully recreate scenes from the video, in addition to parodying shows like Orange Is The New Black and Downton Abbey. There’s a random assortment of big name cameos that pop up throughout the video too, and here’s everyone who appears.

  • Greg Nicotero
  • Steven Yeun
  • Lauren Cohan
  • Hugh Jackman
  • Mark Harmon
  • Tina Fey
  • Tyler Perry
  • Emma Thompson
  • Danai Gurira
  • Kerry Washington
  • Matthew Broderick
  • Luke Wilson
  • Sofia Vergara
  • Ted Danson
  • Taylor Swift
  • Josh Groban
  • Emma Stone
  • Neil Partick Harris

Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan’s “Shake It Off” video was created for Live’s 2014 Halloween episode, which saw the hosts dress up as everything from Mad Men characters to zombies. There’s a fairly dizzying array of actors and singers who appear in the video, including The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan – alongside director Greg Nicotero – and the likes of Hugh Jackman, Josh Groban, Sofia Vergara and Emma Thompson. Swift herself also makes a brief appearance as the “Shake It Off” video comes to a close. Various TV personalities also put in an appearance, including Anderson Cooper and Saved By The Bell’s Mario Lopez.

Most of these guests appeared on Live’s Halloween special itself, so it wasn’t too big of a stretch for them to make it into the video. Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan’s “Shake It Off” video certainly put in more effort than other parodies of the era, but around a year after its release, these kinds of skits became more scarce. The song was more recently featured in 2019’s fun zombie movie Little Monsters, where Lupita Nyong’o played a Kindergarten teacher protecting her students from the undead. She also plays “Shake It Off” on ukelele to keep them calm, with the actress herself personally writing to Swift to ask permission to use it after the filmmakers had been previously denied.
