Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the first fully 3D platformer in the mainline Kirby series, and Kirby’s trusty Copy Ability will help him navigate the game’s mysterious post-apocalyptic setting. The Copy Ability has been Kirby’s trademark since the beginning of the franchise, allowing him to absorb the abilities and traits of enemies and power-ups he inhales and use them on his adventure. Each of these power-ups grants Kirby not only a temporary ability, but a cute hat signifying which ability he currently has.

Nine Copy Abilities return to Kirby and the Forgotten Land from games of the past, including the Bomb Ability and classics like the Sword and Hamer. The game also introduces the new Drill and Ranger Abilities, resulting in a grand total of 11 basic Copy Abilities available in the game. However, Kirby and the Forgotten Land also introduced several new transformations for the iconic pink puffball, including Copy Ability Evolutions and Mouthful Mode.

Kirby’s meme-inspiring Mouthful Mode allows him to inhale huge objects like cars and vending machines in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, granting him unique new abilities that can help him progress through each stage. Additionally, players will be able to upgrade Kirby’s Copy Abilities into their new Evolutions at the Waddle Dee Weapons Shop in Waddle Dee Town. Each ability has one or two Evolutions, but Kirby will have to discover the blueprints for them in order to unlock them.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s New Drill Ability Is Earth-Shaking

The Drill Ability is one the Copy Abilities making its debut in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and players will be able to obtain it by inhaling the game’s new Digguh enemies. With this ability, Kirby can burrow underground to avoid enemies and attack them from below. By digging in a complete circle, Kirby can cause an earthquake to damage foes as well. Kirby may also discover buried treasure while underground, so players can use Kirby’s new Copy Ability anytime throughout a stage to see what goodies they can uncover.

Kirby’s Ranger Ability Gives Him A Gun In Kirby & The Forgotten Land

The Ranger Ability is the second new Copy Ability that Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduced to the series, and this sharp-shooting ability gives Kirby a blunderbuss to shoot stars at enemies. The gun can either be fired rapidly, or players can charge it to fire a powerful star blast. The Ranger Ability gun has a long range as well, allowing players to deal damage to distant enemies as well as foes nearby.

Kirby’s Classic Sword Returns In Kirby & The Forgotten Land

Kirby’s Sword Ability is one of the most classic Copy Abilities in the franchise, so it’s no surprise to see it appear in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. With his iconic Legend of Zelda-inspired hat, Kirby can perform a range of different sword attacks, including an overhead slash and a spin attack.

Kirby can also use his sword to block, giving this Copy Ability some defensive capabilities as well. The Sword Ability is one of the more versatile power-ups in the game, giving Kirby a range of basic attacks that can be used in almost any situation.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land’s Bomb Ability Is A Blast

Like Kirby’s Sword Ability, the Bomb Ability is a pretty straightforward Copy Ability in Kirby & The Forgotten Land. Kirby can toss bombs at enemies or throw them from above while jumping or hovering in the air. Players can target exactly where they want the bomb to land by charging the attack and aiming with the joystick. Bombs can also be bowled towards enemies, allowing players to easily take out foes on the ground.

Hammer Kirby Is Back In Kirby & The Forgotten Land

The Hammer Ability is another of Kirby’s more iconic Copy Abilities from the early days of the franchise, and Kirby & The Forgotten Land players can wield it to smash foes in their path. The Hammer’s basic attack allows Kirby to swing the hammer down to pummel enemies with a heavy slam, and players can charge their attack to swing the hammer in a circle and wallop foes within range. Hammer Kirby can also flatten stakes blocking his path, allowing him to progress to the next area of the stage.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land’s Cutter Ability Has A Powerful Charge

Kirby’s Cutter Ability allows him to throw curved boomerang blades that slice enemies before returning to him. Kirby and the Forgotten Land players can charge the blade during any point of its trajectory, causing it to spin and damage enemies within range before zipping back to Kirby with more power than before.

This Copy Ability lets Kirby throw two blades at a time, but he’ll have to wait for one to come back to him before he can attack again. However, the closer the enemy is, the less time it takes for the blade to return, making this Ability useful for melee combat as well as ranged.

Fire Kirby Blazes A Trail In Kirby & The Forgotten Land

Fire Kirby has been bringing the heat since Kirby’s Adventure, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land players can grab this Copy Ability to burn their way to the end of a stage. The Fire Ability allows Kirby to breathe fire, setting enemies, obstacles, and fuses ablaze. Fire Kirby can also perform a dash attack, turning into a fireball to scorch enemies in his path.

Crash Kirby Is Explosive In Kirby & The Forgotten Land

Crash is another classic Copy Ability returning in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, allowing players to blast through stages with explosive might. With the Crash Ability, Kirby detonates a huge explosion that takes out any enemies within its range. However, unlike the other Copy Abilities that appear in this Mario 64-esque 3D platformer, Crash has a limited number of uses, so players will have to time their blasts wisely to make the most of this power-up.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land’s Ice Ability Lets Kirby Go Skating

The Ice Ability allows Kirby to skate across the ground in Kirby & The Forgotten World, and his icy breath can freeze enemies and objects within range. Kirby can also freeze a shield of ice around himself to defend himself against enemy attacks, making this one of the few defensive Abilities in the game.

Ice Kirby has the ability to freeze blocks of ice to kick at enemies as well, providing a ranged attack that makes this Copy Ability more versatile. Kirby can even use this ability to skate across magma, allowing him to reach new areas of the stage and progress on his quest to rescue the Waddle Dees.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land’s Tornado Ability Lets Kirby Ride The Wind

In Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s world, Tornado Kirby can spin to whip up a tornado around him, sucking in enemies and objects that get caught up in the gale. Not only does this ability displace and disable enemies, but it also allows Kirby to grab boxes and stars from a greater distance and greatly increases his movement speed. Releasing enemies from the twister will deal damage to them as well.

Sleep Kirby Recovers Health In Kirby & The Forgotten Land

Adventure can be exhausting, and Kirby and The Forgotten Land players can use Kirby’s Sleep Copy Ability to rest and recover some health. However, Kirby will be unable to move or attack while he’s napping, leaving him vulnerable until he wakes up again. Fortunately, Sleep only lasts for a brief period of time, so Kirby will be refreshed and ready to dive back into the action of Kirby and the Forgotten Land in no time.
