Pixar is known for taking huge risks when it comes to telling new and unique stories. They have once again moved into slightly new territory, by producing a series of short movies based on pre-existing characters from the studio’s library.

Designed for the Disney+ streaming service, it’s always a challenge to revisit beloved characters, but Pixar has managed to create a number of fun minisodes which should create more of an appetite for future content from the brand. While every episode of Pixar Popcorn is great for the whole family to enjoy, some offer a little more to audiences than others.

10 Unparalleled Parking

While sequels to the Cars franchise seem to always be in the works, Pixar took this opportunity to tell yet another story set within this well-established world. As one of the many films in this series which does not feature dialogue, the focus was all on the action.

In this fun short, each car took it in turns to try and parallel park amongst some tightly stacked cones. Each character had a different approach to the challenge, so although the concept itself was simple, in execution it actually gave audiences a further insight into Lightning McQueen and the rest of the gang.

9 Fluffy Stuff With Ducky And Bunny: Love

Toy Story 4 added a lot of new characters to the franchise. Fans are likely eager to see many of them return, but the standouts for many were the addition of Ducky and Bunny. Voiced by the comedy duo Key and Peele, the fairground plushies brought a lot of things to the table.

Absolutely hilarious, these are characters that are actually able to tell meta jokes; it’s clear that Pixar wants to explore this duo further down the line. The first of their shorts sees the two arguing over which one kids would love more. Our money is on Ducky since teddy bears don’t have a great reputation in the series.

8 Dancing With The Cars

A riff on Dancing With The Stars, this short was another opportunity for the creators behind Cars to be able to portray the personalities of these animated vehicles in a pretty unique way. The premise was quite simple, with the cars partying at Flo’s Café.

As the music continued to change, though, a spotlight was put on each car. Luigi and Guido found their jam when some Italian music started to blare out and Fillmore was taken back to the flower power era with his own psychedelic soundtrack.

7 Fluffy Stuff With Ducky And Bunny: Three Heads

Bunny and Ducky are back again with an even more hilarious set of jokes. Framed as if it’s a stand-up comedy routine, the lines just keep on flying here as the inseparable pair try to work out why anyone would design a toy with 3 heads.

These carnival cuddly toys are actually incredibly useful in the universe to say the things that audiences are thinking. With more Toy Story content always down the line, the likelihood of their return is very high.

6  Dory Finding

Dory has become quite the fan-favorite after her positive attitude demonstrated that no matter the situation she would dust herself off and just keep swimming. Finding Dory was a massive success and managed to dive into her life a little more.

Dory Finding is a really sweet short film which sees Dory come across a number of strange objects at the bottom of the ocean. She quite literally sees the world through a different lens (thanks to some glasses that had sunk into the reef) and tries to make sense of the human items that she comes across.

5 Soul Of The City

Audiences are still enjoying Pixar’s Soul after its recent release on Disney+ but the studio has already leaped straight back into that world with Soul Of The City. This was likely put into development at the same time as the film itself.

In some ways this feels like a number of outtakes from the movie, but instead of telling a distinct story this short manages to create a singular feeling. One of appreciation for everyday life; something that certainly matches the themes of the ending to the film.

4 Chore Day – The Incredibles Way

The debate about which film in the Incredibles series is the best is still ongoing, although it’s easy to argue that these characters are at their most interesting when they are trying to achieve everyday goals while using their powers.

Chore Day really does see the family try to take on average tasks, each time resorting to utilizing their unique gifts to get the job done. Chaos ensues, yet somehow the household does seem to have survived all of the ‘cleaning.’

3 A Day In The Life Of The Dead

The Land of the Dead, created for Pixar’s Coco, is an absolutely fascinating location. A whole society has been created based around the Mexican holiday known as Dia de los Muertos, where loved ones are remembered.

Pixar wanted to show audiences a little bit more of their version of the afterlife, with characters like the officer from the Death Department, Hector, and Imelda returning to screen. Beautifully animated once again, it’s difficult not to want an ongoing series based on Coco.

2 To Fitness And Beyond

As Buzz Lightyear prepares for his own spin-off movie, the limelight is squarely on him as one of his other hobbies is portrayed on screen. Clearly, Buzz might have another career as a fitness instructor if the whole space ranger thing doesn’t work out for him.

Motivating the Toy Story gang to start exercising, each character finds their own way of joining in with the activities despite their own limitations. It’s also great to see the gang doing so well after Woody’s dramatic departure.

1 Cookie Num Num

Another incredible addition to the Pixar Popcorn line up from the Incredibles series, the midnight fight is on for the final cookie in the house. With Bob waking up late into the night, he sneaks into the kitchen for that delicious snack.

The conflict picks up when both Dash and Violet appear, using their powers to secure the delightful treat. The problem is, they have to stay quiet so they don’t wake up Jack Jack. It’s Elastigirl that gets the last laugh though.
