Fallout: New Vegas sequel is reportedly in the early stages of development, or is at least being discussed, and it could feature some returning characters from the original game. A major report stated that New Vegas 2 is being considered by Obsidian and Microsoft. Fallout: New Vegas was an RPG revolving around complex and interesting characters that reacted to the player’s choices. Each of the character’s fates was decided upon by the player’s choices, which would most of the time involve their survivability in the story. Depending on which ending from the first game New Vegas 2 will follow, there are many different characters who could make a return in the highly anticipated sequel.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The elusive Fallout: New Vegas 2 has sparked some talk recently, as it has been reported that Microsoft and Obsidian are in “very early stages” of development on the sequel. Fallout: New Vegas has been widely praised to this day and has a major influence on the Fallout community. With the big news coming out that a sequel could be underway and multiple teases from some Obsidian developers, it is only a matter of time before some light will be shed on the possible game’s details.

The critically acclaimed video game, Fallout: New Vegas, was widely appraised for its deep storytelling and worldbuilding, as well as its compelling characters. Each character felt alive with their own backstory and questline revolving around their hopes and dreams. Many of these characters’ fates could be decided by the players, so some of them may not return in the possible sequel. The story of the Courier affects nearly every single character in the Mojave in some way. There are many influential characters, however, that could be seeing a return in Fallout: New Vegas 2.

Craig Boone Could Return As A Mercenary Working In Fallout: New Vegas 2’s Wasteland

Craig Boone was a popular character in the original game. His story of vengeance proved to be a gripping tale and involved the Courier heavily. The quest involved the Courier figuring out who was responsible for the sale of Boone’s wife as a slave to the Legion. The player is able to frame just about anyone they would like to in the area, however, the main culprit is the merchant, Jeannie May Crawford. An elaborate execution is planned by Boone involving the Courier to bring her to the center of town where Boone can snipe her from the mouth of a dinosaur statue, avenging his wife.

There are only a couple of occasions in the story of New Vegas that involve Boone’s death, which makes him a strong contender for being a returning character in the sequel. One of his endings involved the stoic character working as a mercenary for bottlecaps in Fallout’s New Vegas. Some speech checks in the mission “I Forget To Remember To Forget” can result in two endings for the ex-NCR veteran. This involves changing his outlook on the Bitter Springs massacre, an event Boone hates to remember from his NCR days. Should the Courier decide to help him make amends, Boone becomes a security guard in New Vegas. However, if the player makes him more vengeful about the massacre, Boone goes down a darker path and becomes a mercenary in the western wasteland. This darker ending would give room for some more character development and can even make Boone a companion in the sequel.

Joshua Graham Could Return As A More Prominent Character In Fallout: New Vegas 2

Characters like Joshua Graham are some major reasons why many players love New Vegas over other Fallout games. Introduced in the Honest Hearts DLC, Joshua Graham is by far one of the most complex and interesting characters in the series. His story from being a Mormon missionary to a vengeful dealer of penance against Caesar’s Legion delves deep into his character and lore, making him a very popular companion character in the game.

Known throughout the wasteland as the ominous “Burning Man,” Joshua Graham’s story can conclude in a few different ways, with only one ending in his death. His best ending involves the Courier convincing Joshua to spare Salt-Upon-Wounds, the chief of the White Legs. The White Legs were led by New Vegas‘s antagonistic faction, Caesar’s Legion, and were involved in the sacking of Graham’s home, New Canaan, which sparked his brutal crusade for vengeance. If Joshua Graham is convinced to spare the chief, he becomes the leader of New Canaan and rebuilds it to be a powerful settlement known for its mercy. If the Courier decides to convince him to kill the chief, Graham also becomes the leader of New Canaan, but his notoriety as the “Burning Man” is feared for his brutality. Either ending showcases Joshua Graham as the new head of New Canaan, so New Vegas 2 could involve him once again as the head of the New Canaan settlement.

Cass Could Be In Fallout: New Vegas 2 Following The Return Of The NCR

Among the many companions found throughout New Vegas, Cass is one that has a good likelihood of returning in a possible sequel. Through the long journey of Fallout: New Vegas, Rose of Sharon Cassidy (or Cass for short) sticks with the Courier no matter what faction they may side with, as long as it’s not the Legion. A caravan guard in the Mojave, she lives in New Vegas, making her a solid character that may feature a return in New Vegas 2.

Cass’s story varies depending on the final ending of New Vegas and what faction the player sides with. Most of her “good” endings involve the New California Republic winning the battle of Hoover Dam, which could be the likely ending of the game considering that they are one of the more popular factions in the Fallout community. The other endings don’t exactly add more depth to Cass’s character as well, as they just state her opinions on what occurred and what the Courier did.

Ulysses Was A Secondary Antagonist Who May Return In Fallout: New Vegas 2

Ulysses is arguably one of the most influential characters of the Fallout: New Vegas storyline. Being a courier himself, he had rejected to transport the platinum chip that sparked the main character’s journey to take over New Vegas. He was also responsible for many other events in various arcs of the game, such as the sacking of New Canaan. Ulysses is introduced in the Lonesome Road DLC and if he survives the end of his questline, he can be a permanent companion for the Courier.

Being a character with close ties to the Courier and the events that shook the Mojave, Ulysses can be a possible returning character in the story of New Vegas 2. His connection to Fallout: New Vegas’ silent protagonist can be used to explain what happened after the events of the first game, specifically what happened to the Courier. If the player is able to pass a few speech checks with Ulysses, he is able to be spared and can be recruited as a companion. A former member of Caesar’s Legion, Ulysses is also an interesting character with motives tied to the fate of the wasteland, making him a possible candidate in the game’s sequel.

Some Fallout 4 Characters May Even Appear In New Vegas 2

While this may be the most unlikely possibility, some Fallout 4 characters may appear as companions or NPCs in New Vegas 2. Fallout 4 has some mention of New Vegas’ events and characters, connecting the two games together. From characters like Deacon and Danse to even the Sole Survivor themselves, New Vegas 2 may feature the return of these characters. This would not be the first time characters from a previous Fallout game have reappeared in another, as MacCready, a companion in Fallout 4 was originally introduced to the series as a kid in Fallout 3.

One likely character that may appear is Deacon, who is proven to have ties to the Mojave wasteland and even Mr. House himself. In Fallout 4, if the player brings Deacon to a malfunctioned lemonade selling Mr. Handy named Deezer, the Fallout 4 companion will attempt to override the robot’s controls. He attempts this using a command that states the named Robert House, who was the head of one of the main factions that could be sided within New Vegas. Deacon then states that he earned those codes from a poker game, which could hint that he was once in New Vegas. Depending on the player’s choices in Fallout 4, however, Deacon can be killed. If he makes a return in New Vegas 2, that could mean that the Railroad or Minutemen ending of the game was canon.

Reports of a Fallout: New Vegas 2 being in development is big news for many fans of the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic franchise. New Vegas is considered one of the best Fallout games and it’s exciting to think about the many possibilities that may come with the story and which characters may return. Although the game may be many, many years away with Obsidian busy working on Awoken and The Outer Worlds 2, the possibility of Fallout: New Vegas 2 being in development is amazing news for fans.
