The newest Pokémon GO season, Season of Alola, will be running from March to June 2022. During the duration of the event, over a dozen new Pokémon from Gen 7 are being added to Pokémon GO, including the starter Pokémon Litten, Rowlet, and Popplio. While many Pokémon making their Pokémon GO debuts can be encountered in the wild, others will be more challenging to acquire, either appearing in raids or as a reward for specific Field Research missions. For any dedicated Pokémon GO players hoping to fill out their Pokédex, here’s an overview of which Pokémon are coming to the Season of Alola and where they can each be found.

The Season of Alola Sun and Moon event started on March 1 at 10 AM local time and will likewise wrap up at 10 AM local time on June 1. As the name implies, the season primarily revolves around the Alola region introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon. It will kick off a welcome event that ends on Wednesday, March 9, at 8 PM local time. During the Welcome to Alola event, five featured Alolan Pokémon will be granted more frequent appearances in the wild, and lucky players may even be able to catch a shiny Yungoos. Shiny Pokémon can be difficult to encounter in Pokémon GO, making an increased chance to find one a welcome bonus.

Five new Special Research lines for Pokémon GO will also become available throughout the season, with each beginning on a different date and all five ending on June 1 alongside the rest of the season. There will also be three Pokémon GO Community Days on March 13, April 23, and May 21. A Tier 5 raid boss and storyline have also been added. The consistent use of short-term seasons has helped to keep Pokémon GO‘s community alive in the years following its release in 2016, and the Season of Alola is no different in that regard. From Field Research reward encounters to the Tropical Collection challenge, Pokémon from Gen 7 will be implemented into Pokémon GO in various ways over the next few months.

Pokémon GO Season Of Alola: New Raid Pokémon

Rockruff will be featured in one-star raids throughout Pokémon GO‘s Season of Alola, with a chance to appear as a Shiny variant as well. Three-star raids will focus on the Alolan forms of well-known Pokémon like Raichu and Graveler. Lastly, the challenging five-star raids in the most recent Pokémon GO season reward players with the Legendary Pokémon Tapu Koko from Pokémon Sun and Moon. An Electric/Fairy dual-type Pokémon, Tapu Koko is currently the only one of the four island guardians available in Pokémon GO.

Pokémon GO Season Of Alola: New Wild Pokémon

The three Alolan starter Pokémon, Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio, can be caught in the wild throughout the Season of Alola. However, their spawn rates will only be increased through March 9 as part of the Welcome to Alola event. Wild Pokémon Pikipek and Yungoos will likewise play a role in this event, and all five of these Pokémon may appear as Field Research rewards or part of a Collection Challenge.

Comfey was also added as a wild encounter in the most recent update, with the notable distinction of being region-locked to Hawaii. Lastly, the pseudo-Legendary Jangmo-o can be found in much scarcer quantities throughout Pokémon GO‘s Season of Alola. Jangmo-o can additionally be hatched from an egg in Pokémon GO, though, as can most other common Alolan Pokémon like the starters, Yungoos, and Rockruff, the latter of which has a chance to appear in Shiny form.

  • Rowlet: Dartrix, Decidueye
  • Litten: Torracat, Incineroar
  • Popplio: Brionne, Primarina
  • Pikipek: Trumbeak, Toucannon
  • Yungoos: Gumshoos
  • Jangmo-o: Hakamo-o, Kommo-o
  • Rockruff: Lycanroc comes in two variants, Midday and Midnight form.

As is the case with most Pokémon, each likely comes with a different method behind how to evolve it, whether it be reaching a certain level or utilizing a specific item on a Pokémon. Regardless, it leaves around twenty or so new Pokémon for Pokémon GO fans to collect over the three-month Season of Alola event.
