[Update 05/10/2020 11:40 AM: This article has been modified to more accurately reflect the fact that Renegade Game Studios is developing 5E OGL games and not D&D-based games]

Toy giant Hasbro and Renegade Game Studios have announced an expansion to their pre-established partnership. The two companies are going to work together to create a slew of new deck-building and roleplaying games based on Hasbro properties. Hasbro’s ownership of D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast allows Renegade Game Studios to use various 5E systems to create tabletop RPGs in Hasbro franchises like Power Rangers.

Before these RPGs, Renegade Game Studios created a board game for the Power Rangers franchise, Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid. In Heroes of the Grid, players must defeat waves of monsters attacking Angel Grove as a team of Power Rangers. It successfully adapted the feel of classic Power Rangers episodes into a board game, which bodes well for other coming adaptations.

Renegade Game Studios announced the expansion to its partnership with Hasbro via Forbes on September 30. Nothing was stated about the Power Rangers RPG other than the confirmation that it will be using the fifth edition system. Following a 5E-based Power Rangers RPGs, the company will produce roleplaying and card games based on three other franchises. The Power Rangers roleplaying game is slated for release in 2021.

The next franchise to be explored by Renegade Game Studios will be G.I. Joe. The franchise began simply as a line of toys designed by Hasbro that, due to the popularity of the toys, evolved further and further into other forms of entertainment. It has not been confirmed yet whether the G.I. Joe production will be a tabletop RPG or deck-building card game; however, it’s not difficult to speculate the possibilities that could come from the studio. With a movie in production revolving around G.I. Joe‘s Snake Eyes, the game’s timing could sync up with the release of the movie.

The Transformers franchise will also be explored, but Renegade Game Studios is still remaining rather vague on the products of this expansion. Transformers is yet another franchise that began as a set of toys and spiraled into the massive multi-media franchise it is today. The Autobots and Decepticons haven’t seen much in the way of tabletop roleplaying games (not officially licensed ones, at least), but they aren’t strangers to the world of board games and could branch into new territory.

The final franchise touched on in the announcement was My Little Pony. The My Little Pony franchise rears only the finest of steeds, and has been through more than just toys and a TV show. Out of these previously mentioned franchises, My Little Pony is the only one to already have an established tabletop RPG of sorts. Ninja Division Publishing created a tabletop RPG – or, a “storytelling game,” as it’s described – titled My Little Pony: Tails of Equestria. With this already available to fans, it’s more likely Renegade Game Studios will announce a deck-building MLP game in the months to come.
