Here’s a rundown of every jump scare and kill in Fear Street Part Two: 1978. The second installment of the Netflix horror film trilogy, based on the book series by R.L. Stine, takes a blood-splattered look at the events of a massacre 16 years before Fear Street Part One: 1994. Ziggy, aka “C. Berman,” recounts to Josh and Deena the horrific murders that took place at Camp Nightwing, proving once again that summer camps are the perfect backdrop for psycho killers to hunt down hapless victims and Shadysiders have the worst luck.

The Fear Street trilogy follows a group of outcasts as they try to break the curse put on their town by Sarah Fier. Each film is set in a different year to the others in the trilogy, with Shadyside’s tragic history tying them together and creating a centuries-old murder mystery that infuses slasher flicks with a supernatural twist. At the center of the Fear Street sequel are sisters Cindy and Ziggy Berman. One night, Cindy’s boyfriend, Tommy Slater, goes on a killing spree, hacking up his friends and unsuspecting campers with an ax. As the girls try to piece together what caused Tommy to turn into a homicidal maniac, they find themselves trying to defeat more than a garden variety serial killer.

The sequel is more gruesome than its predecessor, and Tommy’s introduction in Fear Street 1994 sets him up to be the trilogy’s scariest monster. Known only as the villain “Camp Nightwing Killer,” in the first movie, his mask and mindless brand of ax-swinging brutality draw unmistakable comparisons to iconic horror movie characters Jason Vorhees and Michael Myers. Of all the Shadyside serial killers and Fear Street‘s villains, Tommy’s evolution from a nice guy to the murderer of innocent children makes him the most frightening of Nick Goode’s henchmen. The vast dark woods, lonely winding tunnels, whispering voices, and knowledge that a Berman sister doesn’t make it out alive infuses the movie with a slow burn creepiness, but Tommy’s bloody rampage results in a lot of dead bodies and some first-rate jump scares.

Tommy Kills Arnie

Alice points out to Cindy that Tommy’s name has been carved into the rock in the cavern containing the Devil’s Mark, revealing that somebody has plans for Cindy’s boyfriend. Warning bells go off, but it’s too late: an unsettlingly calm Tommy picks up an ax. He repeatedly smashes it into Arnie’s head before turning his attention to the girls who escape into another tunnel before a rockslide traps Tommy on the other side. As Cindy gets caught up trying to convince herself that Sarah Fier isn’t real, she looks for a way out while someone (or something) whispers her name. Ultimately, Cindy doesn’t realize she’s back where she started until Alice shouts “Boo!”.

Tommy Claims His First Camper

Tommy’s possession occurs during Camp Nightwing’s annual color war, which pits Shadyside against Sunnyvale. A sweet, bespectacled boy named Jeremy is tasked with keeping watch over prisoners from the Sunnyvale team. When Jeremy ventures outside after hearing a noise, members of the Sunnyvale team pelt him with eggs and rescue their own. Just as he thinks he’s endured the worst the night has to offer, Jeremy comes face to face with Tommy, who makes the young boy his second victim, proving the gory second Fear Street movie is not for kids or the faint-hearted.

Alice Encounters Evil

As Alice and Cindy try to find their way out of the maze of tunnels, they encounter a pulsating blob. This demonic pile of goo calls to Alice, who places her hand on it, and as fans wait for the worst, she’s bombarded with images of previous Shadyside killers. She tries to run, but there’s another gruesome victim at every turn. Her terrifying visions end after she falls and breaks her ankle: the sharp bone protruding from her skin.

Tommy Murders Joan

Fear Street: 1978 embraces many familiar tropes, including sexually active teens not surviving until the end. As Joan gets dressed after working up a sweat with Kurt Goode, she’s lurking around his cabin, half-dressed in the dark. She doesn’t find anything except an open door, but her relief is short-lived. When she turns around, there’s Tommy, and Joan winds up on the wrong side of his ax. Tommy doesn’t kill Sunnyvalers, so Kurt, who is in the shower when Tommy murders Joan, is spared.

Tommy Attacks Three Shadyside Campers

Confusion reigns as Tommy continues his killing spree, and color war rages on. Nick Goode tries to rally the stragglers, but three Shadyside prisoners are left in the dark as their jailor orders them to stay put in a cabin.  As they weigh their options, one boy lights a match, and Tommy emerges from the shadows. Viewers are spared the graphic massacre, but the sounds of the kids’ screams and the ax coming into contact with skin and bone over and over again leave little to the imagination. When Stephen King lover Nick discovers them minutes later, the sight of their dismembered corpses causes him to vomit, and the sudden appearance of his brother Kurt adds another unexpected jolt.

Gary Loses His Head

After Ziggy discovers Cindy and Alice underneath the outhouse, she recruits Gary to help her rescue them. As they use a rope to pull Alice to safety, Tommy suddenly appears and cuts off Gary’s head. Alice falls to the ground with Gary’s torso landing on top of her. Cindy’s worst fears are confirmed: Tommy is back at camp, and he’s set his sights on her little sister, who flees the scene with Tommy close behind.

Ziggy And The Snake

To flush Sadie Sink’s Ziggy out of her hiding place, Tommy unleashes a poisonous snake. As it slithers across Ziggy’s body, she’s able to keep quiet; so quiet that when Tommy suddenly grabs her by her hair and drags her out into the open, it results in one of the movie’s most memorable jump-scare moments.

The Berman Sisters Battle Tommy

Ziggy sets a trap for Tommy, luring him into the pantry in the mess hall. With music blaring over the PA, she sneaks up behind him, but the music suddenly stops, and he hears the floorboards creaking beneath her feet. Tommy quickly turns around, Ziggy stabs him, and a brutal fight ensues. Just as Tommy is about to bring the ax down on Ziggy, Cindy stabs him repeatedly until he dies. However, viewers know something the girls don’t; death isn’t the end for Shadyside killers who are ultimately victims of Sarah Fier’s supposed curse.

Tommy Is Resurrected

With all signs pointing to Sarah Fier as the architect behind Tommy’s madness and the miserable lives of every Shadyside resident, Alice, Cindy, and Ziggy decide to reunite the witch’s hand with the rest of her body to put an end to her curse. Their mission hits a roadblock when Tommy rises from the dead and slices through Alice with his ax. Fans of the first film know it’s only a matter of time before Tommy reappears, but it’s still a shock, especially when he takes out a character worth rooting for. Cindy decapitates her former boyfriend with a shovel, but the blow proves fatal for Alice.

The Final Showdown

In Fear Street Part Two: 1978’s final moments, the Berman sisters find themselves surrounded by all of the resurrected Shadyside killers. They’re unable to find Sarah’s bones, and with no way to break the curse and all of the killers after Ziggy, Cindy willingly sacrifices herself to try and save her sister. In a heartbreaking twist, each is forced to watch the other die in agony.
