One of the first things Marvel fans pointed out about Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers game was how awkward its characters looked compared to their movie counterparts. There have been many video game depictions of these heroes in the past, but none have so directly called for comparison to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The in-game models represented the comic book versions of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes but failed to live up to the iconic performances of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. Thanks to a glitch, players know what the anticipated Marvel’s Avengers MCU outfits will look like.

Before the leak, developer Crystal Dynamics had already announced Marvel’s Avengers skins based on the MCU will arrive in the upcoming Red Room Takeover event. These will be microtransactions in the in-game store, rather than earnable cosmetics, which caused a fair bit of controversy. Those for and against the microtransactions now have an idea of what will be going up for sale.

As seen in tweets from various players, it seems each playable hero who’s appeared in an MCU film will receive a look from the movies. The skins were viewable via a repeatable bug that cycled through costumes after a hero died in a Utah Hive mission. Crystal Dynamics disabled the mission and hasn’t commented on the leaks since, but the developer later announced Black Widow’s MCU skin as the first official reveal. Players can pick up the jumpsuit the superspy wore in Avengers: Endgame on May 6.

Marvel’s Avengers Upcoming MCU Skins

In addition to the confirmed Black Widow outfit, screenshots show Hulk in his time-hopping jumpsuit and Hawkeye in the suit from his brief appearance as Ronin following the Blip (although there’s no sign of his matching helmet). Meanwhile, Captain America and Iron Man will don the suits they wore while teaming up with the MCU’s other heroes against Thanos and his army. While these skins do change the heroes’ costumes, their faces remain the same, which may disappoint fans hoping to see fully MCU-inspired character models. It seems all of the outfits come from Avengers: Endgame, but perhaps the door is open for more movie costumes in the future.

There’s less than a week before the official rollout of MCU Black Widow skin, so fans of the films may have good reason to give Square Enix’s loot-filled brawler another shot. With Marvel’s Avengers’ rough launch behind it, perhaps paying homage to the most famous likenesses of these popular heroes will be a big step towards revitalizing the game.
