Warning: Spoilers ahead for Book of Boba Fett episode 5!

The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 consists of a standalone installment for The Mandalorian, bringing back several characters from the Star Wars TV series. Bounty hunter Boba Fett made his triumphant return to Star Wars in The Mandalorian season 2, revealing he survived his fall into the Sarlacc pit back in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. After Fett and assassin Fennec Shand helped Mandalorian Din Djarin battle Imperial forces, the former two characters embarked on a mission of their own. The Mandalorian season 2’s post-credits scene revealed a spin-off series following Boba and Fennec as they maintain control of the crime world on Tatooine, titled The Book of Boba Fett.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Surprisingly for a new show that is only halfway through its first season, Boba Fett doesn’t appear in episode 5. Instead, Book of Boba Fett’s installment serves as a standalone episode for The Mandalorian protagonist Din Djarin, providing a long-awaited update on his life since giving Grogu to Luke Skywalker and the Jedi in The Mandalorian’s season 2 finale. In Book of Boba Fett episode 5, Din Djarin’s travels bring him back into contact with several recurring characters from The Mandalorian’s first two seasons, seemingly setting up major events for the highly anticipated Mandalorian season 3.

Considering The Book of Boba Fett is considered by the show’s creators as The Mandalorian season 2.5, it’s not surprising that it featured an episode dedicated to a crossover with the original Star Wars Disney+ TV show. At the same time, Book of Boba Fett didn’t even feature a reunion between Mando and Boba Fett, simply tying the stories together at the end of the episode when Fennec Shand recruits him to fight in the war against Tatooine’s Pyke Syndicate. As the two shows gear up for a climactic crossover set to change both series’ futures, here’s a look at every Mandalorian character who returned for Book of Boba Fett episode 5.

Din Djarin

One of the most beloved new characters in recent Star Wars history is Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), also affectionately referred to as “Mando” by various characters. The Mandalorian’s series has followed Din Djarin as a bounty hunter who is initially tasked with bringing in Grogu to Moff Gideon, who seeks Grogu’s Jedi powers in restoring the Empire. Mando refuses to give up Grogu, sending the two into hiding until he gives the young Baby Yoda character to Luke Skywalker, allowing Grogu to train under Luke as a Jedi. This event was the last time Din Djarin was seen in Star Wars’ franchise, with his Book of Boba Fett episode revealing that he has returned to bounty hunting while learning more about the Darksaber and Mandalore’s history. After reuniting with The Armorer and Paz Vizsla, Mando heads over to Tatooine to get a replacement ship for his Razor Crest from Peli Motto, who gives him a restored pre-Empire N-1 Starfighter. At the end of Book of Boba Fett episode 5, Fennec Shand recruits Din Djarin to fight with them against the Pyke Syndicate, with the Mandalorian saying he has to visit a “little friend” first.

The Armorer

The Mandalorian’s Armorer (Emily Swallow) has appeared twice before on Din Djarin’s series, helping to explain Mandalore’s culture and history, creed, and current pursuits. One of three living traditional Mandalorians, The Armorer survived the Great Purge of Mandalore after residing on the planet Nevarro, soon dedicating her time to forging weapons and armor from salvaged beskar. After teaching Din Djarin how to fight with the Darksaber in Book of Boba Fett episode 5, she labels him a “Mandalorian no more” after he admits that he has taken off his helmet. At the end of Book of Boba Fett‘s standalone Mandalorian episode, The Armorer forges a mysterious piece of armor for Grogu as requested by Din Djarin.

Paz Vizsla

The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 is the second on-screen appearance of Paz Vizsla (Tait Fletcher), first showing up in The Mandalorian season 1 as he gets into a fight with Mando. Boba Fett episode 5 reveals that Paz hails from the historic Mandalore House Vizsla, with his ancestor Tarre Vizsla having been the Jedi Mandalorian who originally forged the combat-heavy Darksaber. Having survived the Great Purge with the Armorer, the two are attempting to restore their forge as they come into contact with Mando in Book of Boba Fett episode 5. After helping heal Mando’s wounds, Paz challenges him to combat in order to win the Darsksaber back to the possession of his family, though Mando ultimately overpowers him.

Peli Motto

After appearing as a hangar manager in Mos Eisley on Tatooine in The Mandalorian season 1, Peli Motto has become a welcomed familiar face in Star Wars’ TV series. Played by Amy Sedaris, Peli Motto has become more of a friend to Mando during his series, with the quirky human character often refueling Razor Crest, making repairs to the ship, and watching over Grogu when Mando needs help. Before The Mandalorian standalone installment, Motto made an Easter egg cameo in Book of Boba Fett episode 3’s Mos Eisley scene. In The Book of Boba Fett episode 5, Din Djarin comes to Motto in search of a replacement for Razor Crest, with the hangar proprietor revealing she has the parts for a pre-Empire N-1 Starfighter that needs to be restored. The two spend time restoring the ship together, which serves as a perfect Easter egg to Anakin’s ship in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Carson Teva

Another recurring character who has appeared in both seasons of The Mandalorian, Captain Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) returns in The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 to stop Din Djarin, who speeds too fast when test flying his new spaceship. Teva is a New Republic X-wing starfighter pilot who often patrols the skies, with his Book of Boba Fett appearance repeating the circumstances of his initial run-in with Mando in The Mandalorian. The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 adds that Teva has a new partner while on patrol, Lieutenant Reed, who is played by The Mandalorian’s Luke Skywalker stand-in actor Max Lloyd-Jones.
