Every Marvel Video Game Coming In 2022 (And Beyond)

Marvel fans have much to look forward to in regards to video games in 2022 and afterward, with Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 , and Marvel’s Wolverine three of the biggest confirmed titles so far. Information on all of them are fairly slim, with only two being given a solid release window. Outside of the three games revealed, Skydance New Media (the new studio headed up by former Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig) has confirmed that it’s also working on a new Marvel game (and it could be Fantastic Four).

Following the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018, Marvel games have experienced a resurgence. Insomniac Games followed up its first Spider-Man title with a spin-off, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, in 2020, while Square-Enix published Marvel’s Avengers and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy to mixed results. Even more Marvel games are on the way now, with Insomniac heading up its own PlayStation-exclusive Marvel Universe Spider-Man and Wolverine, and developers like Firaxis Games focusing on the publisher’s supernatural comics with the more tactically-minded Midnight Suns.

As the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused the delay of several games, the release dates of the Marvel games releasing after Guardians of the Galaxy have been vague, with some not even getting a release year. This is down to the fluctuating nature of game development, with it being much more likely a game gets a solid release date when it gets closer to the end of its development cycle. Regardless, while more Marvel games may be announced in the future, only four have been officially revealed to release in 2022 and after.

Marvel Games Coming In 2022 – Marvel’s Midnight Suns

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was the only Marvel video game to release in 2021, and for the time being, it looks as though 2022 will see just one Marvel title as well. The only Marvel game scheduled to release in 2022, Marvel’s Midnight Suns (based on the MidnightSons comic) is a card-based tactical RPG, unlike other Marvel titles. Being made by XCOM developer Firaxis Games, Midnight Suns features a roster of supernatural heroes such as Ghost Rider, Blade, and Doctor Strange, with players creating “The Hunter,” a customizable character conceived specifically for the game. Originally scheduled for a March 2022 release, the title was recently delayed to the second half of 2022.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Is Slated To Release In 2023

Marvel’s Spider-Man and the spin-off Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales were set in the same open world New York setting, focusing on two separate iterations of the iconic web-slinger. The two Spideys will both be playable in the sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, fighting villains including Kraven the Hunter and Venom. While a specific release date hasn’t been revealed yet, Insomniac Games’ title is targeting a 2023 release.

Insomniac Hasn’t Revealed A Release Date For Marvel’s Wolverine

Announced at the same time as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 during 2021’s PlayStation Showcase, Marvel’s Wolverine will also be developed by Insomniac Games and release exclusively on the PlayStation 5. Details regarding the title are incredibly slim, as only one teaser trailer has been shown. Excitingly, though, Insomniac has revealed that the Wolverine game will be set in the same universe as Marvel’s Spider-Man.

No release date or year has been set for Marvel’s Wolverine. Less information has been shown compared to Insomniac’s next Spidey game, but it has been confirmed to release sometime after. Wolverine‘s announcement hints that more Insomniac Marvel games for Sony’s PlayStation may be coming as well.

Skydance New Media’s First Game Will Be A Marvel Game

Former Uncharted director Amy Hennig is leading a story-driven Marvel game at Skydance New Media, although no further information has been revealed. In the announcement, Skydance promised to develop an original story that may feature multiple Marvel superheroes. No further details have been discussed following the initial reveal announcement, so fans will have to wait and speculate as to what it could be about.

While more Marvel games are sure to be announced due to the company’s dominant presence across various media, only four titles have been announced to release from 2022-onward. The next Marvel title to be released will be Marvel’s Midnight Suns in the latter half of 2022. No solid release dates for Marvel’s Spider-Man and Wolverine or Skydance’s game have been given, but expect more information to come throughout the year.
