Every MCU Movie Releasing After Venom 2

Following Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘s surprising connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, here are all 13 MCU movies coming out after it. Tom Hardy returns to star in Venom: Let There Be Carnage as Eddie Brock/Venom after the incredible success of the first solo movie released in 2018. Venom helped Sony launch its own Marvel universe, which would include movies starring other Spider-Man villains and supporting characters. This was initially expected to be done without connections to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and the MCU, but that changed once Venom 2 was released.

It is during Venom 2‘s post-credits scene that Hardy’s Venom officially joins the MCU. The scene shows Eddie Brock lying in a hotel watching TV and talking to Venom about the knowledge of the symbiote hive mind. However, Eddie’s surroundings suddenly and mysteriously change, resulting in Eddie being in a new room and J. Jonah Jameson’s report that Peter Parker is Spider-Man playing on the TV. The appearance of Tom Holland’s unmasked Spider-Man in this scene irrefutably means Venom is now in the MCU’s main timeline. It is expected this is due to the multiverse cracking, something that Phase 4 is heavily focusing on across its properties. WandaVision, Loki, and Marvel’s What If…? each have played a part in teasing the madness that lies ahead.

Now that Venom: Let There Be Carnage has brought Tom Hardy’s Venom to the MCU, it technically becomes the third MCU movie to arrive in 2021. Black Widow was finally released in July 2021 in theaters and on Disney+ after substantial delays caused by COVID-19. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings released exclusively in theaters a few months later and became a major box office success story. While Marvel Studios has its hands full with nearly a dozen upcoming Disney+ shows and specials, over a dozen confirmed MCU movies are releasing after Venom 2.

Eternals

Believed to be the biggest risk of Phase 4, Eternals will attempt to be the latest surprise hit from Marvel Studios once it arrives on November 5, 2021. The movie comes from Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao and tells the story of ancient superhumans known as Eternals. They are created by the Celestials and sent to live on Earth for 7,000 years, but they are only allowed to interfere in the Deviants’ events. That is why the powerful team didn’t interfere with Thanos’ invasion or any of the other global threats the MCU has featured. Eternals is set after Avengers: Endgame, though, and deals with the characters coming back together to stop an apocalyptic level event. The movie stars Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, and many others – including Kit Harington as Dane Whitman aka Black Knight.

Spider-Man: No Way Home

Already one of the most anticipated upcoming MCU movies, the excitement around Spider-Man: No Way Home’s release on December 17, 2021 should only rise after Venom 2. The third film in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy is again directed by Jon Watts, but it is going far away from the grounded storytelling that kicked off this franchise. Spider-Man: No Way Home is instead dealing with the complications of the multiverse, which come after Peter asks Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to use magic to undo his secret identity reveal. This proves to be more challenging than Strange or Peter thought, and it results in villains from other universes coming to the MCU. Spider-Man 2‘s Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), Spider-Man‘s Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), and The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s Electro (Jamie Foxx) are among those who will appear. There’s a strong chance that Tom Hardy’s Venom will appear too after Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘s tease.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

The Phase 4 MCU movie that could prove to be the most consequential may well be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Development on the sequel took much longer than anticipated and even saw Sam Raimi replace Scott Derrickson as the director. Plot details on Cumberbatch’s sequel are slim, although the title makes it clear that the multiverse will be at the center of what happens. The cast includes Elizabeth Olsen returning as Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch, who will continue her quest to find her sons as teased in WandaVision‘s post-credits scene. Doctor Strange 2 will also introduce America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), and there is no shortage of rumors about other Marvel characters who could be featured. Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams are also slated to return as Wong, Mordo, and Christine Palmer. Doctor Strange 2 is scheduled to be released on March 25, 2022.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Chris Hemsworth returns as the god of thunder when Thor: Love and Thunder releases on May 6, 2022. The movie will continue Thor’s adventures after Avengers: Endgame and once again sees Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi bring a more comedic version of the character to life. Thor: Love and Thunder has all the makings of the next major MCU hit. The main Guardians of the Galaxy characters are set to appear in small roles, while the film also has Natalie Portman returning as Jane Foster. This appearance will see Jane transform into Mighty Thor and wield Mjolnir. Thor 4‘s villain is Gorr the God Butcher, a dangerous god-slaying being played by Christian Bale. Other cast members include Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Russell Crowe’s Zeus, and Melissa McCarthy as fake Hela.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Marvel Studios is also moving forward with plans for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is slated to release in theaters on July 8, 2022. The sequel to the original 2018 movie will be without Chadwick Boseman after his tragic passing in 2020, and Marvel elected to not recast T’Challa for the sequel. Black Panther 2 is once again directed by Ryan Coogler and brings back many of the first film’s stars. This includes Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, Danai Gurira’s Okoye, Winston Duke’s M’Baku, and Angela Bassett’s Ramonda. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is expected to see Shuri take on the Black Panther mantle and introduce Namor to the MCU through actor Tenoch Huerta. It is also confirmed that Riri Williams aka Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) will make her MCU debut in the sequel.

The Marvels

The fourth MCU movie coming to theaters in 2022 is The Marvels, as Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel sequel arrives on November 11. Directed by Candyman‘s Nia DaCosta, Carol Danvers’ next MCU adventure pairs her up with two other superheroes. Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) is returning for The Marvels after getting her powers in WandaVision, while Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) will also be featured after her Ms. Marvel Disney+ series. Story details have been kept under wraps so far, but the movie could include the continuation of the Kree/Skrull rivalry. It is also confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson will appear once more as Nick Fury, and The Marvels could even answer where Captain Marvel suddenly went in Shang-Chi‘s post-credits scene.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

The MCU kicks off 2023 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is scheduled to release in theaters on February 17. It once again stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne aka Wasp. The third film also sees Peyton Reed return to direct and brings back Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer). Ant-Man 3 is expected to heavily feature the Quantum Realm and the multiverse. Jonathan Majors is confirmed to return as Kang the Conqueror after Loki‘s finale, while Kathryn Newton is also taking over the role of Cassie Lang as she presumably becomes a superhero in her own right.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The final MCU movie with a confirmed release date after Venom: Let There Be Carnage is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The movie has been delayed several years due to James Gunn’s firing and subsequent rehiring. When Guardians of the Galaxy 3 releases in theaters on May 5, 2023, it will do so with all of the main cast members returning. This means more of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Groot (Vin Diesel), and Kraglin (Sean Gunn). The movie is also expected to introduce Adam Warlock to the MCU and build off the events of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Fantastic Four

Marvel Studios is also developing the MCU’s first Fantastic Four solo movie. The film comes from Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts and is still in the early stages of development right now. Marvel hasn’t found anyone to play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, or Ben Grimm/Thing. Despite the limited details about Fantastic Four, fans are anxious to see how Marvel Studios brings the characters to the MCU and attempts to get the team right after a few not-well-received adaptions of them in the past. Fantastic Four is widely expected to release sometime in 2023 or 2024.

Blade

Development is also underway on a Blade solo movie starring Mahershala Ali as Eric Brooks. The project and casting was a surprise announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 when Kevin Feige brought Ali out on stage with his own Blade hat. Blade currently has a script from Watchmen‘s Stacy Osei-Kuffour, while Bassam Tariq has confirmed he will direct it. Plot details for the daywalker’s solo film have not been revealed, but it will further Marvel’s efforts to introduce the supernatural side of the MCU.

Deadpool 3

Marvel Studios is also working with Ryan Reynolds on Deadpool 3. He’s returning to star as the Merc with a Mouth in a film that is confirmed to take place in the MCU after the first two worked within Fox’s X-Men franchise. Reynolds is working on Deadpool 3‘s script with Bob’s Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin. No director has been announced, but it is confirmed that the Deadpool 3 will be R-rated, which will be a first for the MCU.

Captain America 4

Anthony Mackie is also scheduled to be the star of Captain America 4. The film comes after Mackie returned as Sam Wilson in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where the Disney+ show explored Sam’s decision to turn down and eventually pick up the Captain America mantle after Avengers: Endgame. The script is being written by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s head writer Malcolm Spellman and staff writer Dalan Musson. There are no details on what the story will be, but it is expected to build on the various plots included in the aforementioned Disney+ series.

X-Men

The MCU’s first X-Men movie is also in some stage of development at Marvel Studios. Kevin Feige confirmed as much during San Diego Comic-Con 2019, but there has been no movement on the project since then. Despite the limited information on the movie, a large contingent of fans can’t wait to see what the MCU does with mutants. Fox’s X-Men franchise was quite popular, but it also barely scratched the surface of what the characters and team can do. Marvel Studios will surely utilize some of the most recognizable X-Men characters, although it might come in very different ways.

Other Marvel Movies Releasing After Venom 2

On top of all the official MCU movies coming out after Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Sony is also developing several other Marvel films. Based on the sequel’s connection to the MCU, there is a chance that these other movies will also find ways to connect to the larger Marvel universe. These projects include Jared Leto’s Morbius and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter, set to release in early 2022 and early 2023 respectively. Sony is also developing movies based around characters like Spider-Woman, Madame Web, and Jackpot. There is also the chance Venom 3, Sinister Six, and more will be made in the future.
