The Pokémon Company revealed many exciting new features for Pokémon Legends: Arceus during the August 2021 Pokémon Presents livestream. Fans were given information on catching mechanics, Battle Styles, and even a few of the Pokémon they can expect to see roaming the Hisui region, as the Sinnoh region was once known. Like other recent Pokémon games, the Hisui region will have special regional forms for a few Pokémon, as well as evolutions unique to the region for pre-existing species.

Regional forms were first added in Pokémon Sun and Moon, with additional ones introduced in Sword and Shield. While only two Hisuian regional Pokémon and two region-exclusive evolutions have been announced – Hisuian Growlithe, Hisuian Braviary, Basculegion, and Wyrdeer – more will likely be revealed ahead of Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘ release early next year.

The Pokémon Company has implied Hisuian Braviary, Basculegion, and Wyrdeer will evolve from the regular forms of Rufflet, Basculin, and Stantler, but it isn’t known if Hisuian Growlithe will evolve into a Hisuian form of Arcanine. It does seem likely, however, as previous regional base evolutions have received regional evolutionary lines, like Galarian Zigzagoon in Sword and Shield and Alolan Vulpix in Sun and Moon, among others.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus Regional Form – Hisuian Growlithe

Hisuian Growlithe sports fluffy, white fur covering its head, eyes, and chest. Its main color is a deeper orange than Kanto’s Growlithe, and it has a tiny horn poking up through the fluff on its head. According to The Pokémon Company, this horn is made of sharp (but fragile) rock, explaining Hisuian Growlithe’s Fire/Rock typing. The species works in pairs to scout its territory, and it has lived away from humans for so long that it’s slow to trust people.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus Regional Form – Hisuian Braviary

Hisuian Braviary is a new form of a Pokémon originally introduced in the Unova region of Black and White. Since these games came after the introduction of the Sinnoh region in Diamond and Pearl, its presence in ancient Sinnoh may give fans an understanding of where certain Pokémon existed before the time of the mainline games. Evolving from Rufflet in the Hisui region, this Psychic/Flying type is bigger than normal Braviary, lives a solitary life, and can imbue its screeches with psychic powers.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus New Evolution – Basculegion

Basculin, another Unova Pokémon, will have the ability to evolve into Basculegion in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. This Water/Ghost type evolves when a Basculin becomes possessed by the souls of fellow Basculin who died in the struggle to swim upstream. These souls make it powerful and aggressive – and give it a creepy backstory to match its intimidating design and red, ghostly tail.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus New Evolution – Wyrdeer

The Normal/Psychic-type Wyrdeer is a Hisuian evolution of Stantler that gains a larger size and a sturdier appearance. Its thick, white beard and other clumps of fluff are valued for their warmth, but it will also help the people of Hisui as one of the Pokémon players can ride in Legends: Arceus – also true for Basculegion and Hisuian Braviary.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be released for Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2022.
