Every New Pokémon Revealed During Sword & Shield’s Nintendo Direct

New monsters appearing in Pokémon Sword and Shield‘s setting of Galar was an inevitability, and the latest Nintendo Direct delivered on just that. The latest creatures are unique enough to stand out against the existing roster of Pokémon, which numbers over 800 as of this writing. More importantly, the look of the creatures appears to be a direct result of James Turner taking over as the art director for these core Pokémon titles.

These new pocket monster will join the existing lineup, which prior to this Nintendo Direct only consisted of Sword and Shield‘s starter Pokémon: Scorbunny, Sobble, and Grookey. Now fans can count on seven more mons joining in on the action, just waiting to be condemned to wait out the rest of their lives in a PC inbox. Although, some of the new Pokémon may actually find their way into the parties of trainers given how uniquely appealing they are from an aesthetic standpoint.

Sword and Shield are set to release on November 15, 2019, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. With that said, here’s a look at seven brand-new Pokémon that can be found roaming the wilds of the new games at launch.

Zacian and Zamazenta

As the cover creatures for Pokémon Sword and Shield, Zacian and Zamazenta didn’t disappoint. Staying true to the names of the games that they originate from, both of these wolves have managed to win over some of the most skeptical of fans. As with past legendary monsters, it’ll be a treat to see how both are weaved into the overarching narrative of the Switch titles.

Gossifleur and Eldegoss

These flower Pokémon are paired together because Gossifleur actually evolves into Eldegoss. The method required for evolution isn’t clear as of this writing, but this line of creatures is meant to mimic the cycle of the Taraxacum (commonly known as the dandelion). This Pokémon is said to travel around via the wind, preferring to land in places with clean air and water.

Wooloo

Given that Sword and Shield‘s Galar region is inspired by the United Kingdom, a new sheep Pokémon was guaranteed to appear. Cue Wooloo, a Normal-type creature with a desire to avoid conflict whenever possible. The tactics it utilizes for dealing with a hostile situation? Simply rolling away, according to Wooloo’s official bio. Here’s hoping that this monster can do more than nibble on grass for trainers that decide to add it to their team.

Corviknight

Finally, another Flying/Steel-type to join Skarmory. Corviknight brings with it an alternative means of travelling around the region, thanks to a company in Pokémon Sword and Shield called Galar Taxi. The practicality of its power shouldn’t fool trainers though, as the creature is believed to be the strongest thing soaring around the skies of the region. The raven Pokémon certainly has a terrifying design, so it’s not hard to imagine that it has the power to back that up.

Drednaw

This pocket monster may be reminiscent of a snapping turtle, but it’s far more powerful than the animal it is based on. Drednaw’s jaw is strong enough to bite through rock and metal, making it one of the most fearsome creatures roaming Galar. In fact, it’s so vicious that only a skilled Trainer is able to make it obey commands, which canonically leads many to return it to the wild. Some may believe that to be a sad story, but it’s unlikely that Drednaw cares.

That’s a recap of all the new Pokémon that were shown off during June 5th’s Nintendo Direct. It won’t be long now until Pokémon Sword and Shield are out in the wild themselves – much to the delight of aspiring Pokémon Masters.
