Dawn ofRagnarok, an upcoming expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, will feature some incredible powers for Odin to wield during the god’s journey to reclaim Baldur. Out of all the new mechanics coming with Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok, the Power of Gods ranks among the top of Ubisoft’s most innovative revamps to the Assassin’s Creed system. Neither of AC Valhalla‘s first two DLCs gave Eivor access to powers such as the ones seen in the upcoming March expansion, so players will get to experience gameplay that feels completely new.

Odin’s new godly powers aren’t immediately available once players start the Dawn of Ragnarok playthrough. As the trailer released on February 10 indicated, Odin receives an artifact known as the Hugr-Rip from the Dwarven peoples living in Svartalfheim. This artifact – which has many similarities and looks to resemble the Assassin’s Creed series’ hidden blade – grants Odin access to the Power of Gods. The Hugr-Rip replaces Eivor hidden blade but will function in the same way with the extra godly powers. In order for Odin to receive these godly powers, the Hugr-Rip must be equipped then used to physically transfer energy from enemies to Odin.

Odin’s Hugr-Rip offers three new godly powers in Dawn of Ragnarok: The Power of Jotunheim, The Power of Muspelheim, and The Power of Winter. These powers come as a way for Odin to seek “creative ways to tackle the challenges to come“, as stated in Ubisoft’s most recent YouTube trailer for Dawn of Ragnarok. Or, in other words – more dramatic ways to assassinate and slay enemies like never before. And, from the looks of early gameplay, these powers are going to bring significant changes.

Dawn Of Ragnarok’s Power Of Jotunheim Revamps AC’s Stealth

Traditional assassins might enjoy the Power of Jotunheim more than the other two abilities in Dawn of RagnarokAssassin’s Creed Valhalla attempted to bring stealth back as an important role in the game because Ubisoft received many complaints that Odyssey and Origins ventured too far away from the series’ roots. While some players may disagree about Valhalla‘s return to a more stealth-centered system, Dawn of Ragnarok is seemingly spotlighting an assassination playstyle more than Valhalla, just in a mythological world with Norse gods and Jotuns.

Powers like teleportation, shapeshifting, and resurrection are the three abilities that Odin gets to wield with The Power of Jotunheim. With teleportation ability, players can use the roll and dodge keys to teleport from one spot to another, quickly resetting Odin’s position for a backslash or heavy hit. This might finally be the mechanic that could help Valhalla get closer to Ghost of Tsushima‘s stealth. Additionally, Eivor will also be able to use the bow weapon to shoot an arrow at a specific world knot and travel instantaneously. This mechanic may be good for either pushing enemies or escaping death.

Another ability that comes with The Power of Jotunheim is shapeshifting. Odin can shapeshift into a Jotnar or Muspel in order to blend in and sneak past enemies, while also setting up unique assassination kills. That’s not the only shapeshifting ability, however; Odin can also turn into a large bird and sore through the sky, making transportation much easier while getting a beautiful view of Svartalfheim.

The last, and arguably the most outlandish ability from The Power of Jotunheim, is resurrection. There’s no doubt that this ability is supposed to be used for necromancy, and it’ll aid Odin in defeating the other Norse myth characters in Dawn of Ragnarok. While this might be the most unique of the Jotunheim powers on the list, it’s also the least stealthy, but it might help Odin defeat Jotnars and Muspels paired with the other active Muspel and winter powers.

Muspelheim & Winter Powers Make Odin Stronger Than Ever Before

Unlike The Powers of Jotunheim, The Powers of Muspelheim and Winter have an active combat effect. In contrast to those who enjoy stealth, this will serve players more interested in open, hand-to-hand combat. At the moment, it’s unclear if Muspelheim and Winter powers are considered one and the same or completely separate. What is for certain is that both offer unique fire and ice combat abilities that benefit Odin’s advantage. They will be especially beneficial when battling bosses, like AC Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok‘s Surtr.

As time goes on, Ubisoft might reveal more about The Powers of Muspelheim and Winter, but right now it’s quite vague. Nonetheless, two abilities have been confirmed: Muspelheim powers offer a fire shield and, Winter powers offer a massive ice attack. These two abilities are great to pair because Odin can activate a strong shield and powerful attack at the same time. Or, players can mix up their play-style and go heavy on one ability or the other, but the best bet is probably to stick to a good mix of both. Since the enemies in the DLC expansion will be a tough challenge, like AC Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok‘s new Valkyries, Odin will need to use every ability available to win.

Some Players Have Mixed Feelings About Dawn Of Ragnarok’s Odin

Some longtime players have been expressing their concern online about the state of the Assassin’s Creed games. Many are claiming that the game mechanics are beginning to become so far from the original games that expansions like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok shouldn’t even be considered a part of the series – that it should be sold as a separate RPG game. Whether players agree with the argument or not, Assassin’s Creed appears to be diverging on two separate paths. In a now-confirmed leak, Ubisoft is preparing to launch a Basim Assassin’s CreedValhalla sequel that will be much smaller and renew the old combat system back to styles similar to Assassin’s Creed Unity, which is a stark difference compared to Dawn of Ragnarok.

Odin’s new godly powers in AC ValhallaDawn of Ragnarok offer an innovative take on the series thus far. Ubisoft has taken a bold step in the direction to further freshen up gameplay mechanics in the series, offering new Jotunheim, Muspelheim, and Winter powers through the Hugr-Rip. However, what’s yet to be determined is if Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s innovation with these powers will distance the series even further from its roots.
