Warning! SPOILERS for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The upbeat soundtrack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 lends itself well to the fun and energetic tone of the film – here’s every song in the sequel movie. Creators decided to include multiple well-known hits of the past few generations to set the proper atmosphere and draw viewers in, and while reviews for Sonic 2 have been mixed, it’s unquestionable that the cheerful music suits the video game adaptation well.

The SEGA game is nostalgic for many viewers who have flocked to the theaters to see the next entry into the Sonic series over the weekend. This nostalgia is of particular importance because the first video game starring the blue hedgehog was released in 1991, making it even more significant that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 includes songs that were already popular at the time along with more recent music.

By stocking the soundtrack with music from the past several generations, Sonic 2 proves that it aims to attract adult viewers who are familiar with the older games just as much as it means to cater to family-friendly audiences, all while successfully setting the groundwork for a third Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
